Yesterday was round 4 of the SWXC series from Wheal Jane, a former quarry/mine turned earth extraction/reclaimation site. Apparently the course was terrible last year so they've invested a lot of time the past 3 weeks getting one together, and it paid off. It was excellent. Just the right amount of elevation and technical sections. With a few other events on including a national race, it wasn't the fullest roster which spelt bad news for me in #operationnotlast.
12/13 and only 1 lap down compared with previous rounds because I knew I needed to put the hammer down. I was only 3 minutes behind 11th and catching them on lap times. This is a notable step-up from previous rounds. I'm competing with some of the best in the region, so I need to stop beating myself up and enjoy the experience more, which I did.
Pretty sure I hit a new speed record on one descent. It was how I imagine being shot out of a cannon. My face and bottomed out suspension say it all
The guy in the maroon top bottom right won the vets I think and he lapped me just before I started lap 4, so I thought that'd be my last lap, so I was well pleased I got the bonus 5th one in.
Thanks goodness for quality modern bikes. This would have been a disaster on retro...not least a gazillion punctures. There were some squeaks and squeals near the end thanks to the pretty deep water crossing, but once again Bee was on point
