Today's Ride

I'd just moved to a new area, (new job, new mortgage) so bought one of these from Mrs Shedobits catalogue and together with an Ordnance Survey map and a British Army Mk 4 compass discovered a whole new area (and hobby) by MTB.
As the bug bit I upgraded and finally replaced it with a Scott USA Montana before joining the local MTB club.
Thanks for showing. :)

Echoing the other cold/rainy/damp sentiments from the last few days, don't be fooled by the smidgens of sunshine and slight blue skies in the distance, approx ten minutes after this I was being pelted with hailstones mid hill climb. 35km, 425 meters of elevation and I think I've got a cold coming on 🤦‍♂️

Hopefully some nicer weather soon :)

The one thing about getting these wet/cold/muddy rides in is knowing how good those dry tracks and sun on your back is going to feel when it comes!

A couple of days off from a really busy start to the year and realise that this is my first proper ride of 2025...at last!!

Usual route around the park, but one I had missed since before Christmas. Cold today, overcast too.

Put some new wheels on this Bravado, so a test ride was in order :)

Park was deserted.

Off to collect a thorn 525 tourer, thought I'd have a little ride up Cwm Sorgwm to the pass between Troed and Llangorse Mountains: 20250214_122851.webp
As the track rose up the valley, the ground became softer and wetter, but 95% rideable on slippery purple pandas.
The pass is around 1150 ft, with a view to Llangorse Lake... home of an Afanc, a water monster nicknamed Gorsey
A touch of snow, a little more needle like icy rain.

What a difference a day makes! First sunny day here for what seems like 6 months (I know it is not, but it feels like it 😁 ) So after spending the morning trying to rescue a MuddyFox frame that is probably beyond saving, I decided to go for a ride.

The ground is even drying out slightly! Sun is still low so long shadows...and it certainly isn't warm 6C but feels like 2C

Maiden voyage.
Decided to switch parts to a smaller frame so the F600 enters the scene. And while I was doing that, I also introduced a drop bar into the equation (3x9 XTR, 650B wheelset, TRP Hy/Rd disc-brakes) ... Still some fettling to do.
Just 1:45 hrs around the city woods with the Missus...
