Today's Ride

Like London buses, you wait for ages to go on a ride, then three come along in as many days....

Today's ride had a purpose (other than going for a ride, which is usually purpose enough!) my wife went to Kingston and left the thing she was taking behind, so I rode to Kingston along the Thames to deliver it!

I was working on the brakes on this one at the time, so it got out for a spin!

I always like that church in the back ground...I used to live near it when I was at University. If you closed your eyes, when it's bells rang, it was almost like being in Italy... 😆

A more leisurely ride was planned through the park, but I was warmed up and this American is a fast machine, if you want it to be, so I shredded it ...gently... it is 35 year-old aluminium after all.

Still cold, about 5C, but brighter than all the gloomy days, we've had lately, which I'll take 😉

A light spraying of ❄️ and was enough for me to seal a morning ride on the T-Max.

Still getting to know the bike but I kinda understand what it’s all about…all in speed, it’s just begs to be pushed as much as you can take it. Had it not been for the unicorn fork this would be a pretty unforgiving frameset.

Got the XC pro cantis dialled in and they are so crispy…it’s pity that the brake pads and rim combo is the worse…can’t get the bike to stop fast enough when the rims are wet.

Anyhow, not sure why I give a ride report on Todays ride thread but here you go.

Planned to do one of my favourite 9.5 mile routes today but forgot my drink 🤬
Not rode the bike since fitting the mudguards and it has just had a service so it (and me) needed a quick blast. At least I got to bring it back down a fast and fairly savage downhill section which I don't think I've done on this bike before and was a perfect test as it was wet, muddy and bumpy, sadly it was also rather busy but still a great ride which I'm very glad I did.

Stopped just to take this one picture... notice the empty bloomin bottle cages, luckily I noticed when I had just got to the top of the first climb and was thirsty

I like the longer ride reports 👌 It's interesting to hear about where people are riding & their setups (especially this time of year when I've got zero motivation to get out in the cold)

Ditto, always appreciate the motivation this thread gives as I'd imagine the majority of us (atleast judging by the last few pages here anyway) are in a climate/region where it's baltic at the moment, so atleast we're all unified in suffering 😂 Sadly I reckon it'll get worse before it gets better since it's been atleast in the North East of the UK a very mild winter, so I'm expecting a cold snap to hit us soon.

Quick spin around and a picture infront of a nice piece by Amps. 46km with 505m elevation, supposedly around 3-4c but with the wind most weather services/strava estimated it felt like -4c. Gusts around 18mph which doesn't seem too bad but felt like daggers today, glad to be back. Hoping we get some nicer weather soon, once I get around to cycling the route I planned from my town into Newcastle, I'd then be able to start from the coast, follow the c2c route west to Consett, then up the Derwent Walk trail into Newcastle, then back down to the coast which should give a good 100km or so route.

Did the 9.5 mile route today and the higher sections were full of ice which gives me the fear and I wouldn't have gone if I'd have know. Remembered my drink today which is a bonus, did plan to do a longer ride but heavy rain for first half hour before it eased off and then just cold and gust of wind.

As per last post, today seemed like the nicer weather I'd been waiting for, supposedly 6c with a "moderate" breeze. Nice tailwind the majority of the way into Newcastle, so that's the route for a longer ride mostly figured out. That moderate breeze grew into 20mph headwinds for the majority of the return with Strava claiming it felt like -6c. Sounds about right to me, fingers like frozen sausages by the time I got home. 66.80km and 654m elevation.
