Today's Ride

Re:

Bit blustery and overcast. Riding into the wind is a chore at the best of times, but today got a call and needed to do the full 45 mile commute (round trip). And it was busy, much more so than usual...
Most of the farmland you see in these pictures is to be developed- into 6 garden villages of over 4000 homes....

Re:

Gilston Park area is the farmland, which is near Harlow, Essex.

The canal is the Stort Navigation leading into the Lee Valley, near Roydon.

My commute goes from Bishops Stortford to Enfield, just inside the M25. I've managed to workout a route whereby, of the 45 miles, about 40 are off-road. There and back are slightly different, because there is more towpath traffic on the way home.

Wow... I used to fish there as a kid with my Essex cousins.... the Gudgeon used to love sweetcorn...

Well that was bloody cold this morning - thermals back out in mid-May  ...but the ride was ace. So good I didn't have time to take a pic.

Cool today, enough to keep jumper on for the whole ride.

I decided to do a loop through some local woods that though sandy have some great sections. My usual plan of going with the flow found me riding along a trail which also happens to be one of the local ways into the woods where Sherwood Pines trails are. As i felt good at this point i decided to go for a blast about. Rode a couple of trails around the once, making the best of what they had, bike park, before they had to take the big features down, and also up to the new built jumps, which were packed. Its good to see the kids out doing something fun instead of just hanging around the streets. At one time i would know everyone there, today i didnt know anyone. Still, its good to see lots of new faces enjoying bikes, can only be a good thing.

After Pines i made my way through a couple more local woods, to more local jumps and back down to some more quiet fishing lakes. Then the long but fun slog back home.

Loads of fun but unlike Al i need the rest, taking pictures is a good excuse for one :)

There were a lot of people out today, not usual walkers or exercisers as of late, it wasnt until i got home that i was told that the restrictions had been eased, makes sense now as most shops i passed were open as well. Oh well, the trails were nice and quiet for a bit at least.

Great ride, great fun.

Re:

Less windy, with just a light breeze, and a couple of degrees warmer today. Much less effort, which was a bonus, as I haven't fully recovered from yesterday.

Commute again - So much busier than yesterday. My commute route is normally quiet - occasional dog walker, jogger or bicycle. Now it's positively congested.

It's great to see people out and about enjoying the countryside. What's not so enjoyable is the sudden upsurge in litter and dogshit everywhere.

Ah, this looks like a good shot, the sun is coming through on the right, it's pinging off the flames. Right, set up the bike, get the cranks and wheels in the right position, ready...take aim...ah bugger...the sun's gone in

Blustery, not as chilly as yesterday and much quieter. Who knew there are so many construction and factory workers in SE London

I did get a token "this isn't a bridleway" shout-out
