I had a Trek 8700 mountainbike back in 1993. It literally fell apart (bondings failed) and I got a 1995 model as warranty replacement. When this 7900 from 1995 popped up, I didn't have to think long. It's in great condition, hardly used I believe as the handlebar grips show no wear at all.
I will probably strip it to keep the parts as they are, replace them with more recent stuff and use the bike for my annual summer bike tour.

I would be stuck on clear coat. Raw looks so good!Thinking about paint options
But wouldn't provide any real long term protection, rust would start to form underneath unless it's babied indoors in warm conditions. If he wants it to get a bit grungy over time then sure that's the way to go. Personally I'd let it go crusty with a good old BLO massage and internal rust inhibitor from time to time. Rust spiders look cool anywayI would be stuck on clear coat. Raw looks so good!
That is sweet! My Mountain Goat Route 66. I think it is a ‘94. Currently raw. Thinking about paint options.
