Awesome ride🤩
Wouldn't it be better to twist the front QR skewer so it looks backwards (like the rear one) so you don't accidently rip it open while riding?

Yep.. It can close anywhere around the lower hemisphere (sorta speak) without hitting the fork.. up to 180 degrees to where it is there^^^

.. but, I have to take the front wheel off to fit it in the back of the Volvo, if I take it to work for a tinker and an afternoon ride.. when I put the wheel back on, outside work in the dark, no glasses on, wheel held between knees.. it’s just easier to tighten it towards myself into space rather than trying to tuck it under the brakes where I can’t see what I’m doing.

I understand, that's really easier. I once hit a small tree branch just enough to open the lever and since then I'm a little paranoid I guess...

Meh! tree branches are the least of my worries..

To give you a full appreciation of my 6am scenario.. every couple of weeks i'll take the Volvo to work..i'll do a Tesco shop and fill it with bags of wood for the woodburner, i'll often take the Pace, just for a clean, a ride or a tinker.

I used to have a Thule ball mounted bike rack which was perfect for a single bike but once upon a'time.. i was driving to Clumber park with my then 5yr old and the locking mechanism failed.. i had to recover both of our bikes and the rack from the dual carriageway while dodging speeding traffic so i stopped using it.. if i put the bike in the boot, it slips around on the plastic boot saver so i have to bungee it down but without the front wheel on, it fits perfectly sandwiched between the back seat and the back of the front seats with the chainrings over the transmission in the space between the two front seats (no oil transfer onto the fabric) Volvo think of everything y'know!

When i get to work, i park between two buildings so i can't open the back doors to get the bike out so i jump out while it's halfway on the road, with the engine running, i open the doors and take the bike out along with my bag, helmet and whatever else... the area where i live is in the S10/S11 bubble, whereas my work address up to the city center is some kind of boarded up dystopian nightmare.. littered with homeless peeps, beggers, crackheads, god-grifters and Deliveroo riders .. there was a fked up sex worker having a shit on the doorstep opposite my work last week.. she wiped her arse on a towel and left it on the floor along with her knee length puffa jacket.. it was -1C and snowing heavily so i dare not leave the car running while i take the bike into the workshop and i dare not leave the bike leaning up against the wall while i park my car.. when i open the workshop i have 30seconds to turn off the alarm so getting the front wheel back on.. driving the car into my spot and getting into work has to happen either before the car or bike gets stolen by the previously mentioned crackheads so aligning the skewer comes quite low down my list of priorities.

Dude that sounds horrible! And I used to think my job in Leipzig was in a shitty area. Boy was I wrong.

I didn't want to complain or be a smart ass, I think your bike and the conversion is awesome and was just wondering why the quick release is in such an unusual position.

Sometimes I'm also lost in translation...

Worry not.. it's Sheffild's old industrial quarter, it used to be a hive of industry before the great outsourcing of the 90s, I like to think of it as a pre-gentrified NY.. just without the melting pot of creativity.. i could move to a modern unit on an industrial estate but they come at cost and i'd rather earn more £££s working from a shithole location.. truth be told, i've never really had any problems with the locals.. i just wouldn't leave my bike leaning on the wall for any longer than a millisecond.

My second and spiritual home.
