Am I so out of touch with modern cycling?

Bit of respect and kindness costs you nothing...so why not just nod back or say hi.

You never know what's in the other end of that wave...somebody who's not seen anybody else all day, somebody who has had a bad day and cheery " hi" just takes the edge off.

In the same way being rude and ignoring them could just push them the other way.

Ok, cycling is a broad church....but at least we are still all in the congregation!

On the flip side. Maybe the person riding along , is sick of people and simply wants to exercise in peace without having to wave every 2 mins at every passing cyclist.

I do acknowledge riders if I’m crossing paths with someone who looks like they are out for a leisure ride or if they gesture towards me. On a sunny summers day I simply won’t bother as I’d be like a nodding dog. But if I’m out in the depths of winter , freezing my balls off - and I see another poor soul doing the same - I will deffo give a nod of mutual idiocy.

But just because someone is riding a bike , doesn’t suddenly make us amigos. Imagine if every car driver wanted a wave as they pass you , and also needed to have a look at what your wearing 😂

I dont wave others - and the others dont wave at me. Even if we are both in our "all black super-man spandex with our super aerodynamic sunglasses on our +5.000 italian carbon road bikes". Nobody even cares! As mentioned before by d8monk: We are simply exercising in peace and concentration. Whats even the point here? :-D :-D :-D

I assume, these bloody "all black" modern road bikers in their gaylord bib tights with their matte black all italian Cervelo road bikes wearing their black hats and helmets and bandanas with the very latest 2024 version super aerodynamic sunglasses didnt even give a single crap about any other riders (you in your combat pants or retro jeans or casual shirts with your everyday walking shoes) and simply left everybody be how ever they like to be.

Yet ...you are here, commenting about ...

Anyways ...
They are over on the Strava forums whining about pedestrians and 'slow' riders ruining their stats.
