I am sure some of you have seen this bike in various online MTB channels over the years. This 1994 Fat Chance Shock A Billy Action Tec prototype was restored by Jeff Archer, then displayed in his MOMBAT museum for years. Before I found Retrobike UK, the Mombat website was my go to for information on vintage, eclectic MTBs. After Jeff's very untimely passing, this bike changed hands multiple times and last fall I had the chance to purchase it from another collector.
This bike just checked all the boxes for me. A Fat Chance in the team violet color, Prototype model that used the standard Shock A Billy Amp rear shock with an added Action Tech front suspension mounted on the factory Big One Inch Fat Chance forks and a modified frame. Lastly, knowing it was restored by Jeff and his team then displayed in the MOMBAT museum also made it a bike I wanted to add to my collection.
When I picked up the bike it had been sitting for a while and the Action Tec was leaking oil. I freshened it up with a few new items and rebuilt the Action Tec. Thanks to the Action Tec facebook group for all the advice and service documentation. I am honestly surprised how well it rides as well as how it soaks up the bumps. I wanted to get some pictures posted so you all could check it out.
