I am sure some of you have seen this bike in various online MTB channels over the years. This 1994 Fat Chance Shock A Billy Action Tec prototype was restored by Jeff Archer, then displayed in his MOMBAT museum for years. Before I found Retrobike UK, the Mombat website was my go to for information on vintage, eclectic MTBs. After Jeff's very untimely passing, this bike changed hands multiple times and last fall I had the chance to purchase it from another collector.

This bike just checked all the boxes for me. A Fat Chance in the team violet color, Prototype model that used the standard Shock A Billy Amp rear shock with an added Action Tech front suspension mounted on the factory Big One Inch Fat Chance forks and a modified frame. Lastly, knowing it was restored by Jeff and his team then displayed in the MOMBAT museum also made it a bike I wanted to add to my collection.

When I picked up the bike it had been sitting for a while and the Action Tec was leaking oil. I freshened it up with a few new items and rebuilt the Action Tec. Thanks to the Action Tec facebook group for all the advice and service documentation. I am honestly surprised how well it rides as well as how it soaks up the bumps. I wanted to get some pictures posted so you all could check it out. FDA45237-F608-414A-8EE4-55DF787244E3.jpeg

love this particular FAT Chance colour - rode a Yo painted the same way for a few seasons…the painted rear amp parts look cool too - only ever seen the in raw alu before.

Used to ride a Amp DeKerf , the Amp / Hors Leitner suspension was a actually really cool and fun to ride😎

Hello @M-Power do you have any other memories or stories associated with this bike? I’m trying to learn as much as I can about it’s history.
Here are a few posts from FB. I may be wrong and Rody ex FCC too may have made the custom fork for this but I cant find the specific post/thread on that.
Seems this proto was too pricey to make which is a shame. Beautiful piece of history and a tribute to the retro collecting legend JA RIP.
