Your biggest overspend

What did you start as a project, with a budget in mind, then just get carried away with and blow the budget over completely?

What were you building and how different did it end up compared to your original plans?

I have never blown the budget on a build (car or bike) as I never set one  it just takes longer to do as the standard goes up / the bits get harder to find / the bits get more expensive ...

Budgets (and timescales) will only add compromise ;-)

WD :D

My Clockwork went way over budget as it started as a snotty frame with no direction. Once it'd been powder coated + re-decalled and the forks had been fully overhauled it owed me a lot. Add the XT groupo, magura's etc and I've spent far more on it then I'd ever get back.

Spent twice my original budget on my Clockwork

Worth every penny though.

Most of my builds tend to be to a spec, the money it takes me to get them there is not at the fore front of my mind. If it needs more money, it simply takes more time to save for it.

That said, the cost of good M900 stuff is now at such a premium I find it very hard to justify and harder still to have those occasional happy ebay moments where you pick up a donor bike on the cheap.

My 1997 Zaskar went from being built up costing £200 ish. On no budget(£0.00 to spend) to hitting around £700. Lots of little upgrades and things that I needed to update and replace. (though the spin wheels hardly helped my cause)

A pair of wheels for the Rudy project
In my quest i have went from having a built a set with a damaged rim to 1 ok rim,1 dented rim, 2 fubar rims.6 hubs[3 front/3 rear] And im in negotiation for another rear hub :D
And still no wheels :(

Quality remains long after the cost is forgotten!.......I never run to a budget but I promise that completing the list at the bottom of this message has cost more than what I have told my other half!.....
