Why do you collect retro bikes?

Retired and wound back the clock 50 years to buy a few of the bikes I could never afford as a teenager.

Nostalgia, yes! My 12 year old self does a happy dance when I look at my bikes.

It started with getting given one of my old bikes back, realised it still did the job for local riding and escalated from there. Nostalgia plays a large part and I tell myself it's cheaper than modern stuff and I suppose it would've been if I'd stuck to 1 or 2.

At the height of the tip finds and carboot sales, I think I had gone through about 1600 bicycles since 1986. Most just serviced and punted straight back out

…for me they just accumulated. I moved from road to mountain in 1985, and then build performance bikes each season…and they just, well, built up. I was never properly retrohead since I always built - and still do - leading edge bikes. When it got silly in terms of components and bikes I started a half-hearted ‘one in, one out’ which has sort of worked since I no longer have
