What is your experience with a repainted Klein Frame!!

I've bought various bits for my Kleins from Jon, I can't fault him he's been spot on and very helpful.

As for paint, he's currently painting MC1 for me for the first time.
As well as having my frame booked in further down the line.
I'm very curious now to see the results for myself first hand.
Up to now the pictures I've seen have looked spot on, plus with the knowledge he's gained from his research and ex-employees I'll expect very good things, if not perfection.
Especially as my father before he retired was a car sprayer in a BMW main dealer. Any imperfections I may miss he'll certainly find.

I really hope this doesn't get locked, as it is in the nature of an open forum.
The dispute has been resolved. People are merely asked their experiences which should help us all in the long run.

Although as many have said we need pictures. A bit pointless otherwise. Especially as you have them on hand as you took them for your painter.

closeup pics of the fades/transitions, and the logos(and the borders) from the different painters would be nice to see in this thread

how many different klein re-painters are there?

Good point. Sure plenty would have a go but only really know of Jonrock who specialises in them.

Why this topic?
I would like to hear other experiences, with repainted Klein Frames.
So also the good stories, and not only paint jobs done by Jonrock, there are several others who say, that they can give the authenticity, quality and durability which Klein had back in the days.

This maybe could help me to make a decision, what to do with the Frame.

So shoot, sent me your comments, Klein painters, pictures etc..

Jack

Yes!,i think this was the reason for the topic starter to start this topic
:D :D :D

I've heard about a painter in Finland (?) and there's of course Etoe in Germany, i'm curious to their results as well ;)

Every body seems reluctant to post pictures??? either good or bad. Which is odd as Kleins are known for the paint work or not??

I must admit Jack given this is the second thread from you on this matter and despite many requests for the pictures of the alledged imperfections I'm puzzled why you still haven't posted any?

Given this started in the first thread I pressume the frameset you bought on ebay was the same as the one Jon advertised here on rb...

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... sc&start=0

Purely on the business side for me this has been helpfull..... It is my intention one day to buy a proper Klein and get a paint job to make it a garage queen investment (safer than the banks)

Jon obviously would be top of the list to talk to for me but two points you mentioned if true would need to be clarified for me...why would the fact the bike is old be a justification for a alledged defective new paint job and...

if there are issues what recourse would I have other than"start a dispute"

This isn't just at Jon though..anyone wanting a Klein and then a paint job is paying hefty money for an average bike that is defined by it's paint and if the paint aint right then buying the Klein would be a waste.

So the advance questions to any sprayers should be asked no matter what there reputation. So Jack..pictures please :D

kick off!

original Klein Adroit Team Storck.....

had two forks repainted
one by John
other by EtoE

another thing is which should be absolutely watched at with repaints is that the color needs time to harden.
Sp you better wait weeks before you insert the wheels, otherwise the color would crack. happened when i had my first fork painted. EtoE sent a description along where this was mentioned (Jon i would recommend this for you ;-) too)
With the EtoE Fork i waited some weeks and this was much harder, well the Jonrock paint is so too after a few weeks

John:

Marvelous color matching through pics
Fast Delivery, good information about progress
after a year looks still great, even not exposed to sunlight many times
paintjob all in all very well.
Not so well the Stickers of the Klein Letters, Size too small, noticed this when i compared them with another original fork. thicker than the original stickers. thinner would be better

EtoE:
Cheaper, also due to better postage possibilities (domestic)
1993 debossed painting, even a bit to much debossed, but still ok
color matching looks a bit too new. not as good as Johns color matching

All in All: both recommendable. even EtoE would be cheaper for shipping.

KLEIN: i have two sunburst and an additional fork all factory painted and the paintsheme is different, even the colorsheme is the same and the year too ;-), as earlier mentioned some decals are not so straight as they should be. depending on the painter ;-)

Got to say it strikes me that this is a scamming, bully boy buyer wanting money off a purchase after the event. Two threads in and nothing, yet he has 10 high resolution photos somewhere.... He's already got money off a reasonably priced, secondhand, resprayed Klein but seems keen for more and wants to bring his dispute into the open to harass the seller out of even more money. Fortunately most on here won't be fooled that easily.

If you want a perfect, dream Klein with original Klein decals and paint then find a NOS Klein and pay NOS Klein prices - there are guys out there that do that and their bikes are stunning, but then their pay checks also have to be.

If you want somebody to take your used, chipped, faded, dented, tired and tatty, 20 year old Klein and breath new life into it then Jon is the guy. He takes pride in his work, he works with the customer, he talks people through the process, he talks to the old painters so that he can best understand the techniques and colours.
He sent photos at every step showing each of the colours he would use, how each would then work with the other, he even sent me test card photos so that I could see the exact effect. He sorted out bearings, he sorted out holes and dents in the wafer thin alloy and created a bike that looks stunning.

There is a reason why Jon has a long waiting list of repeat customers wanting him to paint their old bikes and that is because they know and trust him, know and value his work and like him as an honest and upstanding guy.
If I was going to believe one side of this story I know exactly who I'd stand behind.
