What is your experience with a repainted Klein Frame!!

I had an mc1 painted in gator to match my rascal frame from jonrock ( a few years ago now) ... the colour match and fade was close to perfect :) .... but the clear coat was not smooth and was "bubbly"... i did mention it to jonrock who said he had noticed it... no offer to solve the problem.. which i found a bit weird but i didnt make too much of it as i assumed he had done his best. :)

Read the whole thread, very interesting! In my opinion the imperfections are minor but should really have been mentioned in the listing

You couldn't really expect someone to fork out a £1000 for something freshly painted and not have a grumble if it's minor scratches, and specks here and there that they get for that sort of sum

The chip on the headtube is a bit of a show stopper

I too considered Jon Rock for my Mountain Klein and still would - But I have now repainted a bike myself in preparation for repairing the existing paint on my Klein, if I can't make myself happy, it'll go to Jon

I can testify it's no easy business to get a good glossy finish on a load of tubes and takes a lot of time an patience and I only sprayed solid black with clear!!

Did I rub through the clear and have to redo it? Yes!

Well done to Sylus for helping keep the thread balanced I reckon

After Jack had received his Klein I received AT LEAST 15 different complaints about bike

'So what I would like to do is ship the frame back to you and get a refund!!' He said.

At this stage I had not received any pictures

I was then 'spammed' with multiple emails including 10 pictures

There were some issues granted some of which I'd missed but also pictures of damage that was NOT there when I sent it
The bike was sold as 'used' so not 'perfect' and to quote Ebay
Used: An item that has been previously used. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended.
So my position was that some these 'imperfections' were within the bounds of cosmetic wear.
But not the ones that appeared during transit.

I then received a phone call out of the blue at home from Jack.
I said I was busy (I was watching the England game) but Jack carried on and on.
I put the phone down.
Jack then rang back.
I didnt answer.

I decided that I now wanted to deal with this through Ebay so all communications were recorded.
I told the buyer this via the resolution centre and also said do NOT ring me again as this is not the best way.

The next day I made a partial refund offer of £200 for the transit damage and imperfections

The buyer then rang again that evening having been asked NOT to ring me
I wasnt in.

Buyer accepted the refund.

Case closed.

Some people on this forum have made assumptions and given opinions about this transaction when they dont know the full story.
Those that know and have dealt with me know Im a pretty straight and honest guy and to be honest I have NEVER been 100% happy with ANY paint job especially some of my early work.

Perhaps after one Hijaked thread and 4 pages here Jack can now make his decision on what to do but I think that he maybe has an ulterior motive?

Hi Jon,

Thanks for reply and telling us your side of the story.

I hope your doing fine. I can only say that, Sylus summed it up absolutely perfect. Also I also didn't open this Topic, so that I could do any harm to your business. I started to see what is out there from yourselves and other and what are the experiences about the jobs done. And as you can see, they are mixed (also for the other painters).

Only thing, I don't understand is:
Ebay suggest in the resolution center to communicate with the seller, by mail and phone. I have tried this, but i wasn't allowed to speak to you, sending a couple of mails, you immediately put in in the corner of spamming...
How should I explain to you what the problem is. And at least 15 points. I went through all mails and I only had the 10 pictures, I'm not on the forum to start a dispute again. That has been solved through Ebay.

The used part, you had on your side, even if the frame was newly painted.

How would have been if the roles where the other way around ;)

What will happen next, I still don't know, selling the bike is no option, as I don't want pass the problems on to a third party. Today I had call from my local painter and he isn't able to create the "orange / pink" colors.
So I'm back where I started.

Sold 2 Klein bikes, so that i finally could get, my hands on a Jonrock.

Ulterior motive, can somebody explain that to me? I'm stilln't native English

Maybe, if the situation is not too tense yet, you and Jon can work something out, at least you got this £ 200,- refund which you can spend on a nice repaint/touch-up ;)

Well £200 is a pretty damned meaty refund!

Sorry, your really miss the point, even if Jon would have given 25 pounds or 400 pounds it doesn't change anything to the situation, the frame still keeps the same "minor"defects as how John called them.

What does change with the 200 pounds refund nothing. I didn't have an option it was take the 200 pounds, because Item was as used advertised and the changes where very big according to Ebay, that I wouldn't get anything.

Or do you know a good Painter who does Klein frames for 200 pounds?

So thanks for the reaction, but i still looking for imput about other Klein painters..

Jon thanks for the reply

I must admit had this been done in the 1st thread then the second would probably not have happened

I think Jack rightly pointed out whilst the frame may have been second hand the paint was not and whilst you say "signs of cosmetic wear" ...paint runs and dust under the paint are not cosmetic wear but mistakes in the painting.

I've always respected your work Jon, absolutely but imperfection/s within these most specialised of paint jobs does ruin the whole paint/experience especially when the paint is new and direct from you.

where does it go now?

Jon I feel perhaps there are opportunities for quality control and customer services on your part.

Jack I understand you wanted an absolute minter and thought the jon rock name associated with a new paint job would be enough to assure you of that.

If it helps martins patch repairs seem to be excellent so he might be worth a chatting too?

perhaps a point for all then..never believe the hype and always check the product first before handing over the cash or accept faults may happen or the item may not be perfect.

Lastly if you are a customer of a specialized service and about to shell out a load of cash...never be too afraid to ask...what happens if something goes wrong...it's your hard earned money after all

for my future business($$$), I'd still like to see closeups of the transitions between fades and the decal/logo edges and a couple different angles. not storm paints.

from all the different klein re-painters
