Today's Ride

The process of bike fleet thinning continues so took out the modern Giant Contend to see if it passes the test, weather forecast was dry until the afternoon so went out this morning only to get 45 mins into ride then the heavens opened followed by thunder and lightning 😮

Managed a quick 20 mile blast from Blandford to Wimborne and back. Think this bike goes through to the next round. IMG_20230917_110317594.jpg IMG_20230917_102120012_HDR.jpg

Royally screwed up my ankle a week ago thanks to a hidden divot whilst walking Coop. The swelling it slowly easing but running a proper cycling has been out of the picture until Friday and yesterday, on A'ha, so single speed and relatively flat around Mounts Bay. Friday late afternoon was great, yesterday was damp and just about got back to Newlyn before the heavens opened. Summer lasted a week by the way, it's autumn now, mild thankfully but that's about it.

I found a nice - whisper it - GRAVEL (!) route on Gear Lane between Marazion and Goldsithney. Mid-way you see this converted pumping station. Very fancy.

Two weeks off with lower back pain which has been frustrating as the weather has been glorious. Finally felt up for it today and set out on a gentle ride on the dirt roads near town. There was quite a strong wind heading out but I comforted myself that it would be at my back on the way home.

Stopped at the turnaround point to take a pic, and as soon as I set off again, my chain snapped. There hadn't been much warning -- just a few false shifts just before stopping -- and there I was, the furthest possible point from home and facing an 8k walk.

So I called the Missus to come and fetch me. Totally missed the opportunity of cruising home with a following wind. And no idea why my chain just gave up the ghost at that point.
