Some people CBA to put a sold item on "sold" in the header, even when asked because people still respond to the ad with interest. There are drop down menu options now, still people don't use them.
Why complicate a simple format.
No it won't be replaced as a whole, but bigger more centralised social media is grabbing unto a lot of niche corners. The wealth of knowledge here and on other forums and sites (like legendary Brown's) is of course unsurpassable but forums are a dying breed nonetheless.A forum like this won't be replaced as it's a niche but global meeting/market place atleast I'd hope not, that said you might be correct and change could very well come.
I'd shudder by the thought to be dating in this time and age, the internet hasn't made everything better.

Reddit, instagram, youtube, FB groups has endless amounts of users tapping into the vintage biking community, and it's becoming increasedly populated, especially by younger users. Luckily many of those people still show great respect of source material (that material being many of these forums and various other websites)
My point is simply that changing the formula isn't often the recipe. RB has existed for a long time, and it seems to have done well. So although I think modernising is great and making some changes can be beneficial, they ought to not change the overall feel too much as a forum like this does hold on to, like you say, a very particular niche group of people and straying from the format they're used to could be detrimental.
I’d settle for a dislike button. Too many dislikes and you get your bells and mirrors removed from your bike.I see more and more people moving away from social media, that includes younger generations too, there are however parts of it now inbuilt into peoples daily life, into society, whether that be work or social, which I don't see changing anytime soon.
The way I see the forum going, and is kind of part of it, is as an archive and resource for future generations. I feel it does not really matter what changes are made, in the end it will die off with the generations most associated with the subject.
On a happier note, can we have more emojis on the like option, rolling eyes, frowns, that sort of thing
