Raleigh Dyna Tech bonded frame question

Hey all,

I have a 1991 (or 1992/3) Raleigh Dyna Tech Sentinel. The frame de-bonded after about 1-2 years and Raleigh replaced my frame with a new one (pretty common I hear!!).

The old frame was steel lugged with Reynolds Steel tubing (2055 Frameset). The new frame (a replacement) was the Titanium tubing frame with Steel lugs (unfortunately - I'm unsure of the actual frameset, although I guess an MT3). Raleigh very kindly advised me of the change over to Titanium tubing (in a letter) and painted it the same as the old 1991 Sentinel :D .

My question is this:

Was the frame bonding fault as prevalent in the Titanium bonded frames as it was in the Steel bonded frames?

Reason for my question - I am looking at GBP150 to get my beloved 199? Dyna Tech shipped to New Zealand from the UK... but am worried that the cost is not worth it, in case of any faults the bikes may have?

To be honest I will probably still get it shipped to me, but I was keen to hear if both the titanium and steel tubed Dyna's had the same amount of problems?

Cheers

Mine gets hammered down the red trials in England twice a week and has done for the last 6 months. At the moment it's all glued together fine.

The early problems were due simply to lack of adhesive in the joint area between the stay and the bb shell. Holes were drilled into the shell ports and adhesive was injected. We also used a sealing ring once a "witness" of adhesive was acheived.

To quote Ben Franklin, "but in the world nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes."

That said you should be OK. ;)

Thank you both for your replies.

Lastly, once I get the frame number, is there any easy way to tell from this number what frame I have? (i.e. it's currently dressed as a Sentinel due to the original fault, but the frame is approximately 3 years later in production to the Sentinel and I'm keen to know exactly what frame I have).

FYI - I found a quote last night to get the bike shipped to New Zealand for GBP125 which I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and do. In all honesty - this seems a fair price!!
