This all comes down to what I said previously - if the weight of legislation, and indeed the thrust of the ethos is to break down the walls, and effectively say "there is no difference, that's why you can't discriminate" then why should it matter, and why would it make sense to do it conditionally. If it's the correct thing to do and mandate in society then it should be about doing the right thing, not simply pandering to lobby groups.
