Brief multiplying the 650mps we have @ £65G/year = 43,000,000
This doesnt include house of lords or any of the party whips,personal staff
Then there is the expenses to add :?
I also read that ministers paid out £900m is severance pay to 15,000 civil servants but then hired another 42,000 at Christ knows how much :shock:

Well Mr Blair wasn't a multi millionaire when he entered politics,How many houses does he have now? six is it?

Then theres all the other High ranking cabinet MP's,i wouldnt be surprised to see them leave office with more money than Imelda macros

Beats me where all the money is coming from for a war overseas, a war which will not be won resulting in a withrawal under whatever grounds are expedient at the time. Mealy mouthed politicians will claim a victory by making out that whatever the situation is at the time of us running away was the desired objective all the time.

But hey, when the boys come home what will they find for the rug might have been pulled out from under their career whilst they were away doing their job in times of conflict.

So, this ask the unemployed to go back to work is in reality a form of vengeance on the unemployed, a punishment even, for the news is making much of the fact that if a person refuses to take a job, they will be punished.

Furthermore to implement and govern this new process is going to cost 2 billion more than it presently does with no certainty that money will be saved in the long run.

So, if it is not really about saving money what could it be ?

It's about playing up to the over hyped concerns of their core vote. To that end it will work, just listen to all the claims on here about "putting things right". By the time it hasn't happened they will have forgotten all about it and have been moved onto a new group to hate.

It will certainly not save money either. It is going to cost more. Not one of the ministers interviewed has had the bottle to face the reality of anyone actually having benefits totally withdrawn.

It won't happen, well not as they claim anyway. It may well reveal their core beliefs but it is primarily political posturing of the worst type. With a bit of effort they won't be around long enough for it to matter at all.

But as to Clegg, his party better get rid of him, as he is a liability now for I suspect Lib/Dems will never get the support they got before or another chance at government after Cleggs complete U turn when in power.

I understand the situation is different than he thought, but he made a pledge and that obtained votes where there might not have been, so in a way, by saying what he pleged was a mistake, he has effectively been caught red handed with fraud.

Which all goes to prove his experience in politics is lacking for no one pledges anything they are not sure they can deliver, as pledges not honoured can destroy careers.
