L'eroica 2015 - prices doubled!

Tell you what boils my piss this very own forum Retrobike has held it's own FREE road rides all over the country for the past three years without hardly any response from this forum attended by around the same six people.

In fairness, we can all go on a free bike ride in the country whenever we want with whoever we want to. I've just got back myself from 60 miles around the Chilterns, and very nice it was too. But that doesn't make any difference to whether I want to go to L'eroica UK or not. Driving my car very fast around the M25 wouldn't be the same as driving it around Brands Hatch either. L'eroica, like it or loathe it, is an 'event', signed routes, stunning countryside, 3,000 other retro-minded cyclists and all the bells and whistles that make up a 3-day cycling holiday. Yes, I feel a bit annoyed that the prices have gone up, but I suppose I must still consider it worth it since I signed up again. You pay your money & takes your choice – Will 3,000 cyclists all be innocent dupes?

For those that criticise the event or criticise those that sign-up, then I would hope they base their criticism on their own direct experience from last year, otherwise, on what basis can they possibly comment on value for money or the events attractiveness etc.

I attended last year, thoroughly enjoyed it but was critical of the camping facilities - this year my camping money goes to a local campsite instead and my 3 days will involve a lot of local business related expenses too.

I went last year and will go again this year.

I have booked a camper space and will have the wife with me.

It translates to £21.66 per person per day to be entertained and for a rough campsite. That is pretty reasonable and I expect it to be great fun.

I really don't understand what better entertainment you will find at that price.

Well, this, for one thing:

http://www.yorkrally.org/

It's actually loads cheaper than LEB - free entry to the site, a small fee
for some of the rides, and only 20 quid for three night's camping (not 20 quid per night).

And it's run by volunteers.

I think this event really deserves the support of Retrobike.

I am sure that event will be excellent but I don't know if it will offer better value in terms of entertainment.

Either way both look good but no doubt you will continue your anti-LEB ranting on here so carry on ...

Yes, York Rally looks like it might be good. Shame it's on the same weekend as L'eroica though.

Well do the York Rally then, it's cheaper and more authentic. I hope it's a success.

How is it 'more authentic'? How are you judging authenticity? Did you attend L'eroica last year so that you can compare both events without prejudice.

Of course not he is just on an anti-LEB rant ... boring the pants of everyone with his negative view points ...

I don't see how offering people a decent alternative to the overpriced LEB is 'negative'.

The York Rally offers free stalls to cycling clubs, features a range of cycling activties and stands, and has been run by local volunteers for in some form for many years.

I don't understand why we have to act like the LEB organisers are doing us a massive favour by organising an overpriced event, yet dismiss an event that's run by volunteers.

No-one is dismissing anything apart from you.

I expect both events to be most enjoyable and offer a good time to the visitors.

You have been all over this forum banging on with negative comments about LEB ever since it first surfaced and to be honest it is now completely boring everyone so please give it a rest.
