L'eroica 2015 - prices doubled!

I think from the title, it was obvious that this thread was going to be a critical discussion of the event. If that upsets you, don't read the thread.

I didn't post on your Eroica Britannia 2014 thread because I didn't want to piss on peoples' fireworks. So it's not like I've been all over the Forum.

It's a Forum, a space for discussion. Unlike you, I've tried to avoid insulting or personally attacking other forum members, so what's wrong with replying to other people's posts? If others find it boring, they can also stop reading.

Hello Johnsqual

I actually posted the thread myself, as I was a little annoyed that the prices had risen so much. However, I still decided to go and pay my money. I'm sure you'll agree that 'we like what we like' and further argument about what's authentic is pointless. My only gripe is with the ardent and loud critics of L'eroica who haven't actually been themselves, so can't (in my opinion) offer a valid point of comparison between different events. I'm sure the York Rally will be a great weekend, but I can't critique it since I haven't been, and since it's on the same date as L'eroica, won't be able to.

So to all critics and fans alike - live and let live folks!

+1 ... it must be very tiring to be as negative as Johnsqual

I quite enjoy a good barney. If nothing else, it's helped me clarify my initial dislike of the event, and I've tried to make some positive suggestions about LEB - you always conveniently forget this.

The only tiring thing is people like you distorting peoples' comments and resorting to insults when they run out of decent arguments.

Thanks for that, it's good to discuss someone who's capable of making a thoughful and intelligent contribution.

I don't really agree that it's only possible to judge the event if you've been yourself. One benefit of this type of thread is to enable people to gather information to decide whether or not they want to go, without having to cough up a lot of money beforehand. Not all that info has to come from people who've been to the event - it can be from reviews, other sites, talks with people who have been.

Unfortunately, talking to a few people who went last year and reading some of the threads on here has confirmed some of my feelings about this event. If you're happy with that evidence, that's up to you. I've tried to reserve my criticism for the organisers, rather than people on the forum.

Like others on here, I've got a bit tired of the 'put up or shut up' attititude of some members (not you, but there are a few others).

Johnny

I participate in this forum to share & gain knowledge not to argue the toss with someone who makes an argument for sport ... you will have to find someone else to argue with as I'm bored of you ...

I'd say I participate for the same reasons. Sometimes a lively discussion is a good way to gain knowledge - as long as people don't throw their teddy out the pram when the argument isn't going their way.

There is no discussion with someone who who just pedals their own dogma based on no experience ... anyway as I say I'm bored so no doubt you will enjoy the last word ...

Tell you what boils my piss this very own forum Retrobike has held it's own FREE road rides all over the country for the past three years without hardly any response from this forum attended by around the same six people.
Might want to update your sig from 2013...

Anyway, like most riders in the fens, I don't wear a helmet (and they're not retro either) and viewtopic.php?f=33&t=315076 makes me think old-fashioned riders like me aren't welcome on Retrobike rides.

Retro bikes would be very welcome to join KLWNBUG's Flower Cycle (starts 22 Feb 10am Lynnsport with the Snowdrop Ride) and probably the Reach Rides on the Mayday Bank Holiday Monday 10am TBC from Ely rail station or Cambridge Guildhall but they're not my rides so I'm being a bit cheeky inviting you but I'm sure it's OK ;-)

Re:

Not so bored you can't resist having one last pop, eh?

Evidence doesn't have to come from direct experience, you know. Otherwise, for example, juries would never be able to decide any cases, since they weren't there when the crime was committed.
