L'eroica 2015 - prices doubled!

Re:

It was at the racecourse then or are they still using it this year. I thought the far and flooded. This was worse than normal and killed it off effectively.

No idea. Did it move?
AFAIK it had used the same site for pretty much living memory, if it moved and got flooded elsewhere, I'd dread to think what it'd have been like at the knavesmire!

Re:

It was near the racecourse main building. They chatted as though they had moved there a few years back as it was now much bigger and a larger event. Campsite, displays, jumble, quite a lot of put on rides. Some old bike display. Trade rent area. Some jump/trial bike display.

Lots of mud and water. Busy.

When I mean poor killed it. I don't think enthusiasm killed it, just businesses didn't and so it couldn't be supported.

Re:

I think York rally stopped because Cycle Promotions who were a big sponsor went bust. Ctc were unable/unwilling to underwrite a probable loss, so it was cancelled. T

NO HELMET NO RIDE ! Stick it where the sun don't shine. :x
YYSW and it's the organisers decision but don't start to "boil" that only "the same six people" want to spoil retro riding with modern useless articles and choose to do other more fun rides instead.

What's the rule about hairnet or 'saucisse' helmets? Suitably retro, a bit useless, but are they counted as helmets for the rides?

Re:

This thread has been reported due to a few slightly too personal attacks between a small number of individuals.

Also, I believe the thread is about L'Eroica Brittanica and not about compulsory helmet wearing...

But I suppose while I am here I shall once again briefly explain why we ask that helmets are worn on rides organised by Retrobike.

1) Retrobike is affiliated to British Cycling as a 'club'.
2) BC affiliation means that there is a level of Public Liability cover for organised rides.
3) In order to comply with the expectations of legal cover, certain risk reduction measures must be formulated and put in place.
4) A widely accepted risk reduction measure is to insist that ride participants wear suitable helmets.
5) This is why we ask helmets are worn.

Although BC club affiliation does cost money, none of this cost is passed on to Retrobike ride participants.

I don't know the public liability arrangements or insurance that the organisers of L'Eroica Brittania have in place, but assume that some of each riders entry fee will contribute towards that insurance.
I imagine that finding a company willing to underwrite an event where the wearing of helmets is not among the listed risk reduction measure is more difficult and more expensive.

Will we have to wear proper helmets, or are those useless "bicycle" ones that leave most of your head exposed ok?

I've got a diving one, it's a bugger to see out the little window.

You can wear a diving helmet if you want.
I'm sure it will be hilarious for the first 30 seconds of the ride...
