As the splatter is over the existing decals, won’t it be really hard to get the splatter to match with the new ones as they will be different sizes /shapes?

Yeah that was one of my worrys if i took them off and also the decals would go over some of the existing splatter aswell so i've decided to leave it and look for another 93 Explosif as a new project.

So Christmas is only a couple of stops away and i've been sorting the house and mainly the bike cave out today and lurking right at the back was Lazarus my 93 Lavadome which i've owned from new. And then the light bulb moment happened, i've got all three bikes and that was it Lazarus is back from the dead again from its slumber. Lazarus was like hold the phone did you just say there's Steve Peats Explosif and my big brother the 93 Explosif downstairs, get me out this cave

Never in my life did i ever think i'd see all three bikes together in one place let alone own them but here they are together

So the plan this Christmas is to get Lazarus kitted out in as many of the parts i've been able to remember i fitted when it was in its pomp before i hammered the bike to an inch of its life
This bike has some stories to tell, just looking at it brings back so many happy memories and unhappy ones like the first time i snapped the frame after a month

So far i've got quite alot of the parts obviously not the original ones there long gone, there is two parts i definitely need and that's a zero rise silver Club Roost stem and silver Club Roost bars. So if anyone has some give me a shout please they can be beat up ones because it's only going to be hung up alongside Peatys bike.

I'm probably going to start a separate build thread for it because there's an intriguing back story to how all three bikes are linked together.

And whilst in the cave i've dug these two out the 90 Lavadome and the 93 Cindercone. I've had these for ages and never done anything with them so the plan for the 90 Lavadome is make a one off in black then splat it like i did with those other ones and because i'm going to thin the collection down it will probably then be sold.
The 93 Cindercone will be the first Kona with suspension for me,so that'll be interesting to see what a 93 bike goes like with those on, i've already got some parts together for it but it'll have to wait until Lazarus is back from the dead

I'm waiting on a Club Roost stem being delivered for Lazarus so decided to get cracking with the Cindercone and get some parts on it, i think it's going to look pretty good when finished

Quick back story of this Cindercone, i got this off Retrobikeguy ages ago whoever had it before him had it resprayed to a pretty close match to the original colours,the green looks brilliant in person with a black flip in the paint.
The build has been led by the bottom bracket because if i remember correctly it's a threadless bb because the threads were damaged so that meant i could only use certain chainsets because of the axle length hence the Sugino which funnily enough came off a 93 Cindercone.
As i've been building it it dawned on me that i'm actually building the bike more or less as Kona did with a mixture of Deore LX/DX parts with a XT rear mech because it has green jockey wheels.
I was going to do V brakes because the original owner had put a cable stop on the toptube but i've gone with the black Deore LX cantilevers instead. Reason being,i love the look of the black seatclamp/cable guide the black seatpost and black rails of the saddle combined with the black headset and black Velocity stem and black Fisher bulge bars i think it makes the frame really pop your eyes are just drawn to the frame.
And then with the silver of the Sugino chainset,silver Wolber AT400 titanium rims and DX front mech it ties in nicely with the silver on the frame. I may swap the XT rear mech for a DX with it being more silver
But so far really happy with it fingers crossed it's ready tomorrow for a test ride to make sure everything's all good then it'll probably be put up for sale
If you've seen my wanted ad i'm thinning down the collection and on a mission to collect Kona Explosifs and i've set my heart on finding a 93 Hei Hei next year,my Kona collection will always be incomplete without the Hei Hei.
So if anyone has a 19 inch 1993 Kona Hei Hei they are thinking of parting company, yoo hoo

That looks better with matching Deore DX mechs and all black Deore LX pedals.
Maybe go all black tyres

Another one off splatter done
Sticking to one colour for this one and decided to go a bit easier with the splatting compared to the others because i think that might have been to much if there's loads of it.
Overall i'm happy with the outcome and i'm sure whoever buys it will be happy with it
For me i think the best look is black stem and bars
