Not sure they even came with a roller originally. They had a rivnut behind the bottom bracket to secure the gear cable. There was a stop that attached to the front mech so you could use a down pull effectively as a top pull. Vinevo made some lovely replacements recently. Think the same set up was used on early Yetis too.

Anyway I think yours is one of the later easton varilite ones with the seattube cut horizontally at the top. There were plenty of top pull mechs around at that time (M736 etc) which is why that one had a cable stop on the seat tube.
