^I love those Georgian London churches!
Here's something a little older:
Originally Chepstow priory, now st Mary's Church.
Built late 11th century, belonging to the normans, so this doorway is knocking on 900 years old.
The tower fell down in a storm in 1701, so most of that is, er, comparativey modern.
Today I rode past
Llanfihangel Ystum Llewern...
Surprisingly means st Michael (and the angels) burning the willo'thewisp
Inside, amongst the medieval stonework, memorials, carved timber and stained glass, was a hospitality section, with kettle, teabags, fresh milk...
Seems to be becoming more popular round here - maybe nationwide?
So I had a nice cup of tea,
sitting on a bench in the sunshine,
in the graveyard,
which stands 6 feet above the surrounding land...
- the guide booklet says its because of the several thousand villagers buried here over a thousand years
