93 Rockhopper Shimano Cues compatibility advice.

Hi folks, I'm looking to put a new drivetrain onto my 93 Rockhopper (see 1st pic) and was thinking of going with the Shimano Cues U4000 9 Speed setup including the rear derailleur, shifter and 9 speed cassette on some second hand wheels i bought with a 9 speed freehub on. But before I take the plunge and buy it I want to check that it actually will all fit on my bike, especially if because the frame has a built in derailleur hanger (see 2nd pic) rather than a removable one.

Does anyone see any issues with compatibilty with my frame or am I missing any needed parts etc?

Any advice is welcome. Many thanks in advance.

Pic 1 is gorgeous, but why CUES? And not just a standard Alivio 9 speed? I just got a Rockhopper a couple of years older and I'm just sticking to the standard deore 9 speed bits.

Well I was actually originally going to put on Alivio M3100 shifter and derailleur but figured CUES would be better as it's the replacement and supposedly more durable. Would you recommend the Alivio over the CUES?

Cues offers a much larger cassette sprocket compatibility so suits 1x

There’s no reason to believe CUES will outlast alivio. I have alivio derailleurs and shifters older than my marriage. My Yamaha e-bike comes with an alivio casette and that’s a 250w mid-drive 25kg bike.

If you pair a 34t front with a 11-36 casette you’ll be spinning for days.

I'm terms of compatibility, any modern Shimano drive train with less than 12 speed cassette will fit ok. ( I ran 11 speed xtr on a 93 bontrager).

If you replace the chainset, just make sure you get a non boost one.

One thing to bear in mind with cues - all levels use an 11 speed chain, which are more expensive than 9 or 10 speed ones

I just used the word "cockpit" in a post .. and everyone uses "brifters" these days, even the well-aged folks at the local co-op, just like the kids call sandwiches, "sandos".
