1970's Cable Guides. To tube, or not to tube?

Right, I have finally got to the point of cabling up the gears on my 1978 Dave Lloyd.

The bike has cable guides above the BB and my question is... do I hide some tube within the guides? (to save the paint). Or run it as it was originally?

As naked as lady whiteadder's Turnip :)

Perhaps a smidge of grease.....

Oops, forgot to say that the BB cable guides get full of gunk (particularly after stripping and re spraying) and we usually cleaned underneath them with a pipe cleaner and metal polish :). Not sure if you can still get pipe cleaners?

Re:

Not yet, as the next great question is whether to leave a gap, or not; around the levers when wrapping the bars.

Some pictures on classic lightweights say yes, others no.

Do you mean to do a figure of eight around the levers or just cross the rear of the lever once?

Cheat and take the lever body off and wrap around the clip :)
