Yeah....climbed many a 15+ percenter’s on the old 49 Rotrax & 50’s Fred Dean no probs ;)
70yr old chains rock.... :LOL:

On all my vintage bikes I run a new chain for both reliability and safety, don't fancy stomping up hills out of the saddle on a worn sixty year old chain....I value my spuds too much :shock: ..... don't want to end up sounding like Joe Pasquale on helium. :?

I'm really liking this type of restoration:- take an old original bike, with a decent heritage and frame, and bring it back up to good useable life, using as much of the original components as possible. It'll never zap through the ratios like the latest hyperglide, but that wasn't the state of the art back in 1960, even at the top end.
The chainset and alloy rings are in amazing condition, given their age and lack of wear - do you know anything of the bike's history?

I acquired the bike locally to me having sold an old Evans mtb to the owner. He had a house in France and would buy old bikes and furniture etc from boot sales and markets to sell on his return home. He mentioned he still had an old Peugeot racer he was going to give to his dad and asked if you can still get sew up tyres. I said they are still available though he started showing interest in an old Cannondale mtb I had and maybe we could do a swap. He described the Peugeot as blue with yellow lugs and a strange looking Simplex rear mech and cottered cranks... plus sew ups. Wow i thought, this sounds a bit special and he said he'd dig it out and call me. A week passed and he pulled up in a battered plaster's van, the door slid open and WOW.. there in front of my eyes a completely original 1960 PX10... even better than I imagined it to be.... Christmas has come early :xmas-big-grin:
 
An interesting background story, and definitely unique ... sourced direct from its mother country!
Yep it's a true period classic from 1960, with its half-chrome stays & forks, and highlighted yellow curly lugs - the mark of quality! :?

Forks are now back in the frame. The Stronglight P3 Competition headset cleaned and regreased, I kept the top and bottom race bearings separate for cleaning to ensure the headset turns smoothly.

Stronglight No 34 lightweight hollow cottered bottom bracket has gone back in its RGF shell. Cleaned up nicely and again I kept the drive and non drive bearings separate for cleaning and re-grease. Runs really smooth now and the lock ring hasn't suffered a frenzied attack from cold chisels and oversized screwdrivers. ;)
