1990 Raleigh Dyna Tech Cronos Titanium (56)

Looking absolutely superb, I love it!
(bit disappointed to not see a first gen’ rear mech though, they’re just such a delicious chunk of style. Performance be damned!)
In keeping with the year of the frame and build I once had, the earlier mech was already too old in 1990. I have a few gen 2 mechs that are destined for a future build though.

The chainset has come up lovely. It might be worth applying some wax sealant, as de-anodised Campag cranks tend to oxidise really quickly. Poor Boys wheel sealant works well.
Polishing alloy is a regular chore as I run BBS splits on a mk1 GTI, which need doing every few months. The only downside to using a wax is that they normally reduce lustre by a certain percentage. I’ll look into it though as I’ve a fair few polished C Records cranks in use.

EDIT: I’ve ordered a tub 😁

Excellent, it’s good stuff.
I’ve recently used it on some polished White Industries cranks and once buffed you can’t tell they’ve been treated, they’re just as bright.

Well, it’s complete!

I didn't to get time to customise the pedals like I’d wanted, and I was impatient in the end, so went for a pair of grey NOS Look Carbo Pro pedals instead. I might go back to the other pedals in the future, but for now I just needed to ride the thing.

Bar tape was my usual favourite for bikes of this era, but the bar end caps have been another thing I’ve been patiently looking out for. There’s two decent ones in this lot anyway.

Lastly, was the downturn decal, which I oddly had a pair of which were leftover from the other Cronos.

The first test ride was fantastic, and there’s no surprises there as I already own one of these. However, the C Record is always a show stopper out on the road.
The bike was faultless, which is more than can be said for my Sidi shoes…

About 3 miles from home (thank god), the sole just fell off one of them. I was on a busy country lane without any pavements, so decided I’d walk 50 yards or so to a road where there were pavements either side. Just as I was halfway there, the other sole fell off…

It’s the strangest bloody thing that’s ever happened to me. I rode back with both soles in my jersey pocket, as I will strip the shoes for spares to be used on others I have.

I did manage a picture of the bike in the wild, although I was limited on my location choice.

Looks gorgeous! 😍

Shame about the Sidi's . A good cobblers should be able to stick them back on to bring them back to life! I have a vintage pair of Sidi Dominators I intend to use on my mountain bike, will make sure my first outing isn't too far from home just in case! ;)

Thank you.
When I inspected them, there were really knackered underneath. All the individual sections were coming apart, and I assessed it as too much of a job to bother trying.

Still if you know a good cobblers (sadly there are not many left) let them have a look and give you their opinion. What a beautiful classy bike! You must be very happy. Lets hope we have a few dry days for your to enjoy!

What a great end result, elegant, understated but with so many excellent details and careful decisions. My kind of build! 👍👍👍

I would be out with the contact adhesive sticking those shoes back together! I'm amazed at how my current Sidis are lasting despite countless miles in all weathers.
