COOL PEACHES

Been hearing about this build Si so thought i'd have a gander. Must say I like what you've done in many ways. But from my experience with the cro-mega XT hot-rod you'll never quite settle with those lazy angles. I had Reba's on mine and they were build up for 80mm travel and even that was too much for a frame of that era. However I did speak in great length to the guys at MF suspension (?) at Mayhem last week, they assured me they could convert a modern Sid to 63mm travel without any issues, this might be a way forward if you decide 100mm is too steep. Btw since converting my hotrod frame to rigid using the original forks with disc mounts added, the handling is now beyond comparison. Great work though Si, nice to see your still rolling out eye catching bikes :D Will be interesting to see how it shapes up to the Fat Chancer

I hear yer. I'm liking the lazy angles quite a bit. When seated on the bike its sagging to around 75mm anyhow and as i have posted before I always found the Yo a little hyper compared to my Wicked Fat. These forks are just mellowing it out nicely. I've become used to slacker head angles over the years with my Wicked, the Klunker and the Cotic (running a 140mm fork) so its suiting my needs nicely.

I've had a few outings on it now and all is well. I can easily shorten the travel on the SIDs by moving the sapacers around but at the moment I'm happy as..

Don't get me started on the Chancer again

Absolutely gorgeous, fantastic job. Paint looks great & I love the little gusset at the top of the seat stays.

The angles are visibly very slack, and I find the comparison with a Cotic Soul's geometry extremely surprising, but let me offer three observations:

1. you like the handling - that is quite important, whatever the theory says

2. you have a long/flat stem on there, and if you ever did want to counteract the slack angles, an effective method is to fit a shorter stem and/or a bar with more sweep - much easier than reducing travel, and offers a better end result

3. it would be very surprising if the offset in the DH3 crown happened to be the same as in a modern SID crown, and if there is a difference in offset it could be that it's making the handling sharper than the angles might suggest (if so, all part of your carefully-crafted plan no doubt)

I absolutely love this bike. I am actually thinking of doing this myself. If you are ever thinking of selling this bike, please let me know.

The comparison seems to be with a Soul with a 140mm fork on it, so perhaps not all that surprising.

That looks spot on ! I like the green and red it works well and isn't to much . Just shows you that a new bike could be made to look nice rather than the bland looking things that are around today .
