My work bike, a Claud Butler 'Enduro', which is a basic mid 90's MTB which has morphed into being my most functional & practical bike. My commute is 7.5 miles each way and this beast gets me there 2/3 times per week. Also used as a town bike and long linear walk 'get me back to the car' transport. Previously was a derailleur geared triple 21-speed, then a single ring 7-speed and is now, after chainstay spacing reduction works, a Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub gear. The drop-outs are short horizontal so to stop the chain flying off, when giving it the beans, the bike sports a chain tensioner fashioned from an old V brake arm. Has a hub dynamo and a decent front light for this winter. The eagle eyed amongst you will spot the incorrect rear wheel spoke lacing at the valve, caused by me building the wheel whilst not paying attention. 'Nuts!' I thought after lacing and then could not be bothered to correct. I have built plenty of wheels before and this is the first time I have carried on with such an error present. I pay the price every time I pump the tyre up with oily hands from the dirty crossed spokes! I'll sort when the rim wears out.... It rides quite nicely and the hub gear adds a bit of charm with the benefit of long transmission life. You have to work a bit harder with just 3-speeds and the large gear gaps but the bike is really set up to run most of the time in 2nd gear which is direct drive. No lightweight but strong and reliable!
