as the title suggests,

which part has impressed you most and for what reason?

i thought of this because i was curious as a pair of my wheels have been really good, although not retro as such, they have stood up to so much abuse for an xc pair of wheels used mostly for winter and then stuffed into a trail centre bike that becomes a dh bike for the alps and they're still going strong.

on a more retro note, un51 etc shimano bottom brackets, they go on for ages!

also, chris king headsets! amazing!!

:D

Dropper seat posts, not retro I know. I was always a doubter of dropping the saddle for downhills but having finally caved in and tried a dropper post and I'm converted. They are amazing bits of kit.

The bike chain purely and simply its the epitome of overworked over stressed ultra reliable part. Brunel would have struggled to top that design

Charge Spoon saddle looks after my rear end
Works for me too.

Lock on grips, such a simple idea & they work so well

Thomson seatpost. It just works & is a beautifully engineered product

Pretty sure Thomson counts as retro, not sure on Lock on's & the saddle deffo isn't retro!

Retro : the Altus A-10 groupset. Yeah, feel free to laugh.
Mine is like an Energizer bunny. It keeps going ... and going ... and going ... and going ... and ... well ... you get the point.

Modern : Formula RX brakes. Look at the lever, and you'll feel like you've hit a wall.
