what was your SECOND mountain bike?

Went from my first MTB a 5 speed Maverick with sidepull brakes in 1986 to 15 indexed gears and cantilever brakes on a Dawes Ascent in early '89. Lovely bike in it's own way - shame I bought it the next size up, to grow into it! Thank goodness for top tube pads being acceptable at the time! (I was saved by cosmic trail lol)

After deliberating long and hard between a Giant and a Kirk Revalution I went for the Giant Escape. Basically waited for Kirk to arrive in the shop felt the weight and bought the Giant.

After a year some scally nicked the Giant from my shed. Insurance paid up and I headed off to Leisure lakes and picked up a brand new shiny 1993 Kona Lava Dome. My second mountain bike. I kept this for 11years, as others came and went.

This was my favorite bike to this day, and the result of that is me finding this site and resurecting an old Explosif frame. Which I now ride to work during the fairer weather.

If I could have found a Lava Dome at the time I would have built exactly the same bike I bought in 93.

At the time I always wanted a Klein. Now I could get one, but I still love the old Konas.

I had a bitsa based on a sirius 653 frame based on a bromwich design I was told (painted black with green spots).

Highlights included:

A set of wheels I had to sell 2 canoes to fund, but xc-pro with grease guard was worth it

Flat cinelli road stem

Look pedals

Campag olympus mechs with deore shifters.

Yes that's right campag, shimano and suntour in perfect harmony for the drive train!!!

Would love to have that bike now.[/list]

Trek 930 Singletrack, excellent frame let down by cheap components. Taught me a lot though and got me proper bitten by the MTB bug, my next bike after that was my Pro Image - a super lightweight thoroughbred race machine
