My first, a Zaskar/RC35s, was changed to a ProFlex 955/Girvin frameset from Stif.

Mr K
I too went from a rigid front/hardtail to a '97 Proflex Beast, because I just kept loosing control of the bike. I made the right chioce.

A Bob Jackson Gran Montana.
It was far too big for me although built to my order . Fully lugged Reynolds 531AT tubeset. I had it altered eventually by Bruce at Brucies Bike Shop in Kendal to a lugless dropped top tube design but it was never a goer after all and got rid of it to Mrs jbd's brother-sorry Pete! ;)

A Mongoose Iboc Pro SX Carbon frame only in 1992.

I was still very much on a starter paycheck so had to balance my aspirations with the budget. I had to sell my 1989 rigid steel stumpjumper to fund the bonded carbon fibre and aluminium frame. I built it with rigid aluminium bonded Koga Miyata forks, some Ritchey parts, specialized wheels, XT 8s and Gripshift, LX cranks. And my first Brit part too, a USE post still with me today.

I loved it though the forks were non-suspension corrected unlike the frame so it was pretty nervous. Weight was good for what was still a bike on a budget, just under 10 kilo. Subsequently I rode it for 2-3 years as my main ride, but after that kept upgrading it and I never have sold another MTB since the Stumpy. (I did sell the Alan, but hat is back now!)

sold my claud butler banshee and my dads gitane (he wasnt so happy about that as I didnt aske him!!)

bought a RC200 F2

My second proper MTB was a black (1991 i think) Aluminium O which I rode for about a year before I had it resprayed by Dream Machine to the colours you see below.
At the time Canondale did a colour scheme that was a really deep blue faded into black at the rear. I asked DM to do this, even game them a picture and this is what came back. I was gutted at the time, but got used to the colours fairly quickly, and who wants to look like a 'dale anyway ;)

Spec was XT with CQP cranks, Dia-Compe 986 canti's, 231 rims (ceramic rear), Pace forks (RC35's??) Control tech bars and stem and USE post

Al Carter Black Panther - black with fluro pink decals. Full DX with RM20 rims, the frame is still in my parents garage. The 1.5 headset never stayed tight, so the head tube is slightly oval, and the steerer on the forks has a crack. but was a cracking ride, Rode accross the the US on that.

1991 Giant ATX-770 with Deore DX and push-push STI. Trek DS2 (Showa) fork that weighed a ton and did next to nothing. Bike was a tank and only lasted for about a year before I sold it for a Cannondale Beast of the East.
