What projects are you working on?

Here's my latest personal project...

I've been riding hardtails for years and have never felt the need for a xc full sus bike, until this last year. Maybe I'm getting old, but those 7 hour epics are really taking their toll on me. So, I decided to build up a new ride for myself.

Does it count as retro if it's build by guy with an oldschool attitude?

Some of the part picks for it...

Syncros post and stem
'90 XT thumbies
'90 XT front and rear derailleurs
Ringle disc hubs on Mavic 217's
Flite saddle
Marta disc brakes
Tioga psycho tires, natural gum rubber
Fox talus shock
Building my own sealed bearing two piece bb and crank

Should be a functional ride with a nod to the past. Here's what I've got done so far....

rody, have you made the rear triangle from steel too?

man, that's some old school attitude! keep on.

Vitus VTT. Not sure as I've ever even seen one in the UK. Used to get the bonded vitus road bikes.

Nice custom job Rody. Certainly has that retro vibe :D . You build many full sus rigs? What forks ou going to be running? Look forward to seeing the bike completed.

more details...

Tangent,

yes, the rear triangle is aircraft 4130 as well. Straight gauge .028 wall, .5"x1" rectangular box. The rear end pivots on abec 7 sealed bearings in a classic Horst Link design. Using breezer drops and a custom disc tab.

Ruttegar,

The front fork is a Fox terralogic 100, a bit more suspension than I've ever had but heck, I deserve it.

Progressive 5th element for the rear shock.

Had thought about turning down my own headset in the lathe, but when I can get a King for 100 bucks, it's not worth the time.

I'll take some pics along the way and keep you guys updated. Only have an hour or so at the end of the day for me so it will take a bit...also building a big one inch replica and a one piece bar stem for my Yo. Too many personal projects right now

cheers,

rody

Rody, looks very yeti ASR, style but without the swinglink. I guessing its going to be pretty stiff made outta plain gauge steel! (which is good coz side loading on the shock without the swinglink on the ASR (or racerX which is pretty similiar) would lead to some massive shock shaft wear.
nice project :)

Now thats a project!

Nice one Rody. Looks more Titus Racer x than ASR to me (Horst Pivot - hope you've paid Specialized!).

Fluff

Always found it incredible that you can purchase someone's idea and call it your own, restricting other from using it, as Specialized did in 98.

Now even Karl Nicolai, who designed the "horst link" suspension under AMP research, must pay a license fee if he wants to produce and sell a product using his own design.

Fortunately, I'm not selling.

cheers,

rody

Looking at that British Eagle BOSS prompted me to tell/ask you lot about my current project.

I bought the frame off ebay, and it's an alu e-stay jobby, with 11/4'' headstock with a gusset betwween top and down tubes; all round tubing, built-in gear hanger, 31.6mm seat tube (ID). It does not have the 'continuation' of te e-stays onto the down tube like the BOSS has, nor does it have the brake struts between the seatstays and chainstays.
It came with Tange/Tioga forks, an LX front mech, a cro-mo stem and nothing to identify the manufacturer... the seller thought it might be a Scott.
Having researched a bit I can only seem to find waht it ISN'T

Any ideas?

Whatever it is, it looks good, especially as I'm also using using red anodised bits to set it off.
Spec:
Suntour XC Pro canti's, XC Sport brake levers, wishbone shifters, XC pro front mech, XC something rear mech, Araya 7x rims (currently on Joytech hubs but to be rebuilt onto my RED Sugino large flange BMX hubs!), red Sunn bars, no-name cro-m- stem, red A'me Tri grips, no-name seatpost, Iron Horse saddle, XC comp cranks with red Middleburn outer ring, Suntour 7-speed block, Suntour clipless pedals(!) .

Pic's to follow...

Hi Lawrence!
Sounds interesting, diverse e-stays seem to keep cropping up so sure someone can help.

Pop some pics in a new thread when you get them.
