This thread is amazing.

It gets more like STW round here every day, which is a real shame.

I'm usually quick with the lingo, but what's STW?

Surely this is slap-bang in the middle of the RB demographic??

This thread sucks..

I feel sorry for the original poster. There is no way that you can justify the response of the idiots in that car. I don't care what people think about clipping wing mirrors.. beating the carp out of someone is far worse - and in essence the point of this thread.

Adi - I hope you get justice for this. I believe that you should pursue this as far as you can. Idiots like that have to realise that they can't get away with that kind of violence, even if you had taken the wing mirror off!

Don't think anyone is justifying it...possibly explaining it, but not justifying it. Crazy people will be crazy.

I agree. Some of us disagree about the rights and wrongs of accident resolution. Can we leave it at that?

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but what relevance does this have in the scheme of things?

"Big Very dark african ish looking male..."

Unless you're giving us the description you provided to the police...?

it means that he was assaulted by a Big Very dark african ish looking male...

you shouldn't have to offer any apologies up adi-66. If it was a Fat Very pale ginger ish looking male you would describe them thus, its relevant because thats what happened.

damn sorry to hear about your bike being trashed for a wing mirror, that is just bad luck you ran into those thugs on that day

I am I the only one who read the post and at the point where it said “what next?” started thinking about what to do with one mangled high-end bike? I thought this was a forum about bikes?! :?

Anyhoo rant over, I’ve been thinking what I’d do with 1.5 kg of scrap titanium (Xizang frame) if it were mine. After reading the post I Googled “scrap titanium” and found out that ti only gets about $20 per lb as scrap. So that is all of ~£40 as scrap value and it’d be a shame to bin it. So here are my other suggestions;

1: My next door neighbour is a very talented arty type and makes jewellery amongst other things. I’m reliably told that when heated titanium makes some wonderful colours. So I reckon find a jeweller, give them the frame and get the missus made up something nice from the scrap and let the jeweller have the rest as payment. It’ll last for ever and the wife will be pleased!

2. If you can stand the noise (and the kitsch value) then chop the tubes up and make the world’s most expensive wind chimes! You could heat them up to make them more arty…

3. Polish it to a mirror shine, hang it on the wall of the garage and bore anyone who will listen with comments like “superior strength to weight ratio” and “they don’t make them like that any more” until your friends begin to question your sanity

The remaining components could be donated to the Splatter Paint budget race bike project…… :D

true enough, back on topic.... any chance we could see a picture of the trashed bike? I am really intrigued now...

Here in the states we just carry Glocks.

Well, OK, maybe not ALL the time.

OK, I've never actually carried a gun on a bike.

Or in a car.

BUT, I treat everyone around me, both when I'm in a car and when I'm on a bike, like they are all drug-crazed gun packing crazies, because now-a-days, most of them seem to be.

Enough with that already...show us the bike!

Yes , but not until the insurance is sorted out. :?

my 2pence........

beating the crap outta some one is a way over the top reaction by any one..its out of ordah ...secondly car and non matching number plate..hmmm.wander if the guy tried to apologise to whoever the car was stolen off...dubble standards methinks...get better soon fella and welcome to the forum ...

There's no need for violence, regardless of what happened.
People have driven into my car in the past, and then tried to sneak off. Does that make me justified in kicking the crap out of them? No, because its just an object that can be replaced. The OP here could have fallen backwards, hit his head and had a blood clot form on his brain. Is that a fair trade for a "damaged" wing mirror??

Having said that, it's not just an inner city thing. When i was teenaged and riding along a flat straight pavement beside a main road a car slowed down beside me and the passenger reached out the window and tried to grab one of my bar ends! I managed to swerve away from him and the car sped up to get away from me. In hindsight i shouldn't have but at the time i was rather annoyed so i kicked the cars rear 1/4 panel with my alloy toe studded northwave boots. Needless to say the car driver noticed and slammed on his brakes stopping dead in the middle of the road!
I hopped off the pavement and across the main road (which was empty) jumped down a small set of steps into a lochside park. I pedalled as fast as i could in the direction i just came from and kept my head down so i was hidden behind the (then) large hedge between it and the main road.
I rode back into town and sat on the wall in front of the police station for half an hour, then pedalled home by back streets, rather scared!

Opinions on this? Who'd have done the same and who'd have done differently :?:

Crikey. Arn't the inner citys getting jolly rough these days??

You need to stop spending £700 on gebs and get your priorities right sunshine- move out into the country, non of that nonsense out here. You see being in the country you can have big guns which prevents the violent acts you have sadly been a victim of.

On the other hand, pushing the Mrs about is one thing but if a cyclist so much as touched my car mirror and then pissed off they would be picking lead shot out of their Lycra clad arse for weeks.

I think your attacker got a little carried away and should be brought to justice, but as so many have said, it was not entirely without provocation.

Best of luck sourcing a new bike- just be a little more careful what you do with it next time.

Si
