TV Licencing...Quite clever really

We pay them monthly through debit card. My mrs has been back in hospital again (congenital heart prob's) so all the bills have pretty much fallen by the wayside having to work and go to the hospital back and forth.

Just got a text message from the TV licencing saying payment was due and just to text YES back to authorise payment....All above board too. I thought that was quite clever really

It's funny how you have to have a TV licence just to watch the Beeb but you don't need a licence to listen to the Beeb on the radio.

I don't see why they don't do a subscription service for the Beeb instead.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've watched the Beeb in the last year. That works out at about £20 per time. :evil: :evil: :evil:

I must say i rarely watch anything else other than the BBC, especially 3 and 4. And i am quite happy to pay just not to have adverts, and F1 this year, quite amazing.

People seem to forget, the BBC is a public service, there is no commercial pressure of trying to sell the public stuff.

I'd happily save the money and live with the adverts - after all, they seem to be able to advertise their own programmes on TV and radio (one advertising the other) and that's apparently fair.

I completely agree.. especially seeing as they then sell the programs to Dave.. and on DVD. The TV Licence sucks.. the only good thing that comes out of the BBC is the BBCi.. and 4OD is just as good.. :evil:

ive often thought that but as i do all my watching through link sites i can watch things back to back without any break between them and having all that crap inbetween is actually very mentally relaxing

they are putting a good effort in this year we have the F1 , they had decent coverage of the track cycling , topgears worth a few quid , always listen to radio 2 in the car , huey morgans show on radio 6 ,

never watch itv and channel 4 has gotten progressively worse over the years

TV licence is just a tax. The only difference is that unlike 'normal' taxes, you have absolutely no control or say whatsoever about how it is spent. You can't control the type of programmes the BBC makes, who it appoints as its head or who it puts on your TV screen or radio or how much they pay them.

'Wossy' got a pay deal of £18m over three years, thats the equivalent of a years TV licence revenue from a medium sized town, just to pay his wages.

'Aunty' should have to stand on her own two feet.

the bbc is not just what you see on bb1 and the radio

its a massive organisation.

I dont think there has been a time when I have logged on to the internet and not been on bbc.co.uk

They have some excellent documentaries, some great drama's and decent daily news.

Well anyone who has lived aborad will know that other countries have a TV 'tax'. In france for instance, the public television channels are a shambles, who also take in revenue from advertising

It is different from the UK system, as the TV licence is paid as part of the annual taxe d'habitation. costs 116 Euros, and the television must be declared on your income tax return. You must declare your TV even if you do not have it connected to any set top box or satellite. Your TV is still taxable even if it is not able to receive any channels

So for your 116 euros in france you get nothing, here we get a great service.

(p.s its not only france, most countries charge a license, the fact that our public broadcaster can make brilliant programmes and export them around the world is surly a good thing)

I think things like the BBC would be missed if it went, can't really go back, maybe ya can. Its well respected abroad. Must say though I am bored of teh same big overpaid presenters, we're surely not short of talented people trying to break into TV for a honest crust.

Anyway we don't want to end up like US programmes, overly padded out with recaps/things to come, on the progs and an ad break every 5 mins, boring! My TV time has cut down though, takes a lot to keep my attention and flicking through loads of crap half assed channels with old stuff and pants new stuff gets boring, and now ya got more than 5 channels, ya can't even browse quickly for stuff ot to miss. Nope Apprentice and Inbetweeners are all I'm sitting down for at the mo...

Spot on :evil: The BBC is one big public con. In the USA the BBC channel has to show ad's other wise the USA wouldn't let them air. (when I was in the US 2001)
