Today's Ride

No pics to show for it, but after a frustrating week of pre-Christmas shopping expeditions, home improvements and unexpected visitors, managed to escape on the road bike for a sunny late-afternoon blast. 32km in an hour and a quarter, with 300m climbing.

Well, on the out-and-back route, the breeze was in my teeth most of the way, but coming back it propelled me to a speedy homeward leg which felt fantastic. In the coming days, with kids home and social duties taking priority, it's going to be a case of shooting out opportunistically to get a few bike miles in. My devious plan is to go in the mornings when the youngsters are indulging in their propensity for late rising.

Good plan. Sadly I'm the visitor and have no bike with me to do the same.

Kona meets rocky mountain

may I be your guest anytime soon?

anyway... first time ever with a waxed chain. I am convinced, to say the least.

Watch out, the hanger could be misaligned - every week we get a bike in where the rear derailleur has caught the spokes and caused £100 damage!
Sora R3000 will work on Mtn 9, 34t max r sprocket.
The gs cage gives a total capacity of 43t (that's [big+big] -[small+small])

Yeah, seems I did more damage than originally thought - had kind of assumed just the cage had bent but the day after that post woke up to a flat, sorted it then went out and had some terrible shifting. Thought maybe I hadn't clamped the QR enough so had a fiddle with it and noticed the cassette had some play. Did a u turn, went home and inspected it to see that the lock ring was loose! Quick purchase of a chain whip/lockring tool and its torqued back down, shiftings still a bit ehhhhh but it's usable, did just under 40km today with no real issue and managed to catch my local bike guy who confirmed it was both cage and hanger. Can't really be fucked sorting it atm to be honest so just gonna run as is until the festive periods over then grab a new hanger and put the Sora RD on. I do a decent amount of miles a month which obviously contributes to wear and a crash certainly doesn't help but it's hard not to be a bit miffed when I do try to take good care of all my equipment, service regularly etc and always seem to have issues meanwhile the neighbours teen sons Voodoo is permanently left out in the rain rusting away, never washed or serviced etc and it still seems to be fine 😂

39.6km, 385m elev and a moderately warm day so I was surprised to not encounter one singular cyclist - amount of dog walkers on the other hand has increased tenfold.
