This mornings stretch. Overnight rain and a steady WNW breeze means, yes, you've guessed it, we're back in spring or have entered autumn in July. Fresh 12, felt more like 9/10, high cloud, the odd patch of blue sky, still damp and wet in spots. Quiet out, the calm before the storm in 2 weeks when schools start to finish.
First dirt for Monolith
Out before the sun so I could beat the heat. Chased whitetails and wild turkeys down the trail, couldn't keep pace with a heron in flight. Watched the sun come up over the pond. Then again down by the river. Two in one day?
Geese galore, an osprey, goldfinches, cormorant, a couple of homeless camps, a guy catching a hefty smallmouth bass on the shore, plenty of wildlife.
Stopped here to watch a whitetail bounding down the line, was surprised to realize that I was standing within ten feet of 5-7 wild turkeys making their way through the scrub on the other side of the tracks!
Also met this little painted turtle, all snuggled up in its little leaf blankey
And then, home again in time to make my baby her morning cuppa
today was a very hot (above 32°) and dry day, so singlespeeding wasn't the best choice, I must admit. it didn't take too much time to become clear the ride turned to bimbling around rather than a 'real' and 'serious' ride. otherwise it was good.
Saturday morning blast was ace. Warmish with the wind blowing from the S/SW. Managed to beat a heavy shower before brekkie, and with no-one about, that's a solid gold ride.
friday evening - fields of gold over the fenland - big mostly-off-road loop at max chat to get the training in - who says flat is easy - then rdv with partner to grab beer at Dyke's End - no lights ride in pitch black back home.
Saturday spannering lessons for grom who has interview at bike shop this week
Sunday fast fast single track in Thetford ... started at 9'30 rather then the usual 8'30 so quite busy. But high gear blasting so training is working....
