Today's Ride

This mornings stretch. Overnight rain and a steady WNW breeze means, yes, you've guessed it, we're back in spring or have entered autumn in July. Fresh 12, felt more like 9/10, high cloud, the odd patch of blue sky, still damp and wet in spots. Quiet out, the calm before the storm in 2 weeks when schools start to finish.

First dirt for Monolith IMG_20230708_054136503.jpg
Out before the sun so I could beat the heat. Chased whitetails and wild turkeys down the trail, couldn't keep pace with a heron in flight. Watched the sun come up over the pond. IMG_20230708_055014816.jpg Then again down by the river. Two in one day? IMG_20230708_063035509.jpg
Geese galore, an osprey, goldfinches, cormorant, a couple of homeless camps, a guy catching a hefty smallmouth bass on the shore, plenty of wildlife. IMG_20230708_063150898.webp
Stopped here to watch a whitetail bounding down the line, was surprised to realize that I was standing within ten feet of 5-7 wild turkeys making their way through the scrub on the other side of the tracks! IMG_20230708_071744880.jpg
Also met this little painted turtle, all snuggled up in its little leaf blankey IMG_20230708_072735870.jpg
And then, home again in time to make my baby her morning cuppa
