Today's Ride

Apparently it was 10 degrees but with a cheeky breeze it was less and I should have put a jacket on. Still, a wonderful sunrise on top of Well Hill before the cloud rolled in.

Another nice sunny day, quite warm though windy, definitely shorts and t-shirt weather.

A late start today and though cloud was coming in where i live i decided to nip over to the peak and brave it out. As it turned out, the peak was nice and sunny all day, quite windy on the tops and open moors, though easy to forget about that as they were now bogs after the recent rain which made for interesting if a little hard work. Fun none the less :D

Rode down an old road i used to ride a lot on the KTM, great views over Sheffield as you can see in the first few pictures, quite rocky in places, which set the scene for the rest of the day really. The road leads to Lady Cannings, there are a couple of trails through there, i did a couple of laps on them but was struggling to hold on after a few as it is more for suss bikes and quite pumpy on a fully rigid, great fun through some of the berms though and when smoother you can really pick speed up  great until you pop out of a berm into a cobbled rocky section

After that it was a loooong slow sinky wet ride over the moors, if i wasnt axle deep in peat (one time top of front tyre deep) then i was hoping over and between rocks trying to make progress, big sigh when i finally reached the path in the next valley.

The last part was pretty much all downhill, through the beautiful Burbage valley back to the road and a short ride back to the car

Another great ride, covered in mud, wet feet, scratches from heather and pedals, and a big smile.

Now that looks ace. Take me there now!

To offset the wilderness, here's some urbanisation from this mornings ride. A very mild 15 degrees, stiff breeze and about half way through a random full face shower. The sun rise started to reflect off the buildings creating some great colours that sadly the camera couldn't pick up. Very quiet in places, the city is barely awake these days. Fine with me!

:) you know, i have seen the views up here soo many times over the years i have to really force myself to stop and take them in. Different scenery is definitely a human need to help stay awake as it were.

I really like your cityscape views, growing up i did see them a lot, its been a while though and they have changed quite a bit. The most surprising image there though is the one of the cable cars, i had to google that one, never knew they existed, do they operate at night? i should imagine some great views from them

Nice one cheers.

The cable cars are ace and a really handy link between the O2 and Excel centre, or more practically, "Greenwich" (in terms of transport hub, not the actual place) and the Excel centre. They are like any other mountain resort type gondola and are pretty quick. The views are unique; you can see clearly to and over the QEII bridge and looking west a great view of the city with the bends in the Thames. Oh and the price is reasonable, you can touch in and out with your Oyster card/CC. It doesn't run all night.

Re:

Friday! Much chillier than Thursday, 7 and sticking around 8 by 08:15. Mercifully dry so headed back to the Thames just because.

Here's a pic from much earlier in the ride heading in the ghetto of Mottingham ;) That mist was proper chilly by the way

Re:

Not been getting out much during the week as the forecasts have been mainly bleak.
I'm now spending weekends in Yorkshire and managed to squeeze in another ride this morning. I needed it just for the distraction. My home life has been as poor as the weather lately.

This morning I followed the TPT in the opposite direction. This way it leads to Barnsley, or Sheffield if you leave NCR62 and take NCR67 somewhere near Hoyland. I went as far as Wentworth and then retraced most of the way back. It was muddy, in places very, but stayed dry. The trail was very busy, particularly on the way back.

Sunny for most of the ride, but only 9°c. Didn't take many photos as my mind is on other things. Covered a fraction under 30 miles

A lot of rain today and I had to take cover for half an hour. Killing time with the mobile camera.

Initially I wanted to build up the bike with rigid forks, 9-speed, microshift thumbies, mechanical discs and so on. Some kind of neo retro build. Then I thought that at least one bike with suspension wouldn't be bad, maybe one bike with hydraulic brakes would be good and favored a Shimano build instead of another mishmash of parts.

What's left of the original idea is the crankset which looks out of place now and I'm going to replace with a silver 785 XT.

Plus a Nitto S65 seatpost. End of the story. ;)
