Today's Ride

Re:

Autumn has arrived :( Shocking weather yesterday morning meant an aborted ride and walk with Cooper instead. It had dried up in time for my end of work blast ride before another walk with the dude. The light was pretty special by the time we were close to home; almost CA like, golden and with a proper, super-massive rainbow.

This morning was equally bad if not slightly worse and blinkin' cold. However it looks decent for another blast after work again. Fingers crossed.

8) can never seem to capture a rainbow, need a different camera me thinks.

Another glorious warm sunny day.

Well it has been a while since i have had a ride in the Peak, been doing a lot of walking up there again recently so today i decided to drive over for a quick blast. The weather was glorious as said, so, despite an early start to avoid to many people, i didn't, it was packed on the first edges, they are close to car parks though so its quite easy to get to for most. By the time i reached there on the bike it was like a town centre, only no queues.

Once on the moors though it was a lot quieter with only a few bikers, some dog walkers and a runner, guy must have been in his 70's still going strong. Stopped and chated to another biker for a while, turns out he has a whyte pr type thing, also a P7 and a few santa cruz nomads, nice guy though unlucky with forks by the sounds of how many he goes through.

Another great ride, awesome backdrop and all in all an excellent day.

Nice shots. Picking up on your comment the other day, what phone/camera are you using? The resolution seems a bit low and some of those vista's probably look more epic than the pictures reflect.

Busy couple of days so Monday was a run in the morning since I felt right rotten on Sunday. With the radio show on Monday night, yesterday morning was a "luxury" lie-in (to 7!) but I got out in the early evening to scoot about and see the sun looking ace. You could smell autumn everywhere.

Got the morning ride in today but heading back out shortly. The Esatto is finally ready to pick up from the LBS. They've been waiting since April for Hope to provide the hubs for my new wheels. Crazy times. Anyway, I'd forgotten to give them the maxle for the front wheel and in my infinite wisdom I'd accidently thrown it out when I was clearing out the garage last month. So I'd found a new one and was ready to post it through their letterbox this morning, then pop over later in the day to ride it back. I turned up this morning to find that they don't have a letterbox

Ah well. It was still a good urban scoot, carving up the traffic. A clear, fairly still morning, slightly chilly 11 degrees rising to 12 by 08:15. Here's the tunnel entrance/exit at Elmstead Woods. So many people go through them but would never see it like this.

Thanks, and i am using an old compact, had it for years and ideal for mountains, though you have got me looking for a more modern one, they seem to have moved on quite a bit  though the big advantage of mine is it uses AA batteries so its trying to find a better specced one that takes them also. And thinking about it my phone probably has a lot better camera, always forget its in the bottom of my bag.

Is that tunnel the one that goes from overground to underground?

If you've got a phone with a decent camera then you could leave the camera at home; one less thing to carry.

The tunnel is totally over-ground. It's the main-line out to Sevenoaks and beyond. The tube barely touches the south-east suburbs although the Bakerloo line extension originally had plans to go out as far as Bromley

Might have to try the camera next ride, if i remember. Actually had to find it out of the bag today as someone rang mid ride but still didnt think to use the camera on it

Anyway, dog sitting so quick local loop, actually rode backwards around one which meant more uphill but it was actually ok as i was feeling a bit fresher than of late, LOTR type voice came into my head as i typed that :)

The day was warm, even more when the sun came out briefly, the trails were damp but still hard so were fun to ride, the woods are starting to get a lot of leaf cover on the floor so the fun of hitting every hidden root is finally returning :|

Another short but fun ride.
