Finally had some time today. A hour fettling the bonneville left me a couple to strip.
BB is solid and chewed. But acceptable for the short term. As are many other aspects. I have cleaned and freed. Forks were a riddle wrapped in an enigma hiding behind a conundrum that likes puzzles…
You have to work out which joints need to be undone and which make no difference. Then press a pivot or two to expand the virtual head tube length to get the steerer onto the frame. Very satisfying. Then realise you have to guesstimate how many spacers to fit. Then stem, top cap and a further sleeve to bring it up to 1 1/8 for greater variation which may be required as it’s a medium frame. Bottom cup is 1 1/8 and top needed a special cobble to fit the steerer. All snug as is.
Been well used an had many battle scars. I won’t touch it up until I bond with it. Haven’t thought of a name yet…
As @mk one stated and from my vague memory of these without reverting to Google, cantilevers will utilise the hole for central pull of straddle cable whilst a V brake cable can skirt around the outside.
