This is why I love this site. The next build………. Proflex 657 with Girvin forks

IMG_7363.jpeg Finally had some time today. A hour fettling the bonneville left me a couple to strip.

BB is solid and chewed. But acceptable for the short term. As are many other aspects. I have cleaned and freed. Forks were a riddle wrapped in an enigma hiding behind a conundrum that likes puzzles…

You have to work out which joints need to be undone and which make no difference. Then press a pivot or two to expand the virtual head tube length to get the steerer onto the frame. Very satisfying. Then realise you have to guesstimate how many spacers to fit. Then stem, top cap and a further sleeve to bring it up to 1 1/8 for greater variation which may be required as it’s a medium frame. Bottom cup is 1 1/8 and top needed a special cobble to fit the steerer. All snug as is.

Been well used an had many battle scars. I won’t touch it up until I bond with it. Haven’t thought of a name yet…

Brighter though.

Is the hole through the seat tube for cantilever? Fork has a cantilever mount which made me wonder. On the cusp of V perhaps?

Yes, this frame design is the previous years model so cable used to go through hole into a cable stop that mounted onto the swingarm.
