Hello everyone I found the site doing some research for parts to repair my old bikes and I am becoming addicted very quickly. I am based in minnesota in the u.s. and started getting serious about bikes back in my early teens ( I am 45 now ) It began with bmx and progressed into road work and mtb, I have become fat and lazy over the last ten years but the benefit of that is I have a couple gems hanging in the garage so now my juices are starting to flow. I hope to spend some quality time on the site in the future.

current stable
1977 schwinn le tour (currently in restoration)
1993 specialized rockhopper (wifes bike)
1996 trek y-11
1996 specialized stumpjumper m2 fs comp (replacement for a mid 80s team green stumpjumper after a collision with a honda back then)
1997 cannondale los dos tandem
1998 cannondale xs800 with about 25 miles on it, loaded with chi-chi's

also have a couple mid 90s schwinn cruisers and a couple bikes that are pretty recent.

Hi all, I found this site because I had stripped the threads on my rear mech hanger on my 1990 Raleigh Mission and was looking for a solution so searched out this retro bike forum.
Am glad I did as I was pointed to an excellent solution within an hour or two. :thumb:
As for me I'm 48 years old, live in Fife in Scotland and am still riding the Mission which I have owned from new every single day.
The bike is 95% original, having only recently replaced the original DX rear mech with a modern counterpart.
Am still looking for an original DX short to drop back in if any of you have one spare

Hi all

Hiya folks, just wanted to say hello. Would like to be able to contribute a lot more than is likely but living on a narrowboat and internet connectio aint brilliant.

Just getting back into mtb after a long lay off, was realy into it all early to mid 90's until I did my back in thrashing through Epping forest so it's all easy stuff now.

Had to buy the mrs a bike, she's 5 foot bugger all and ended up getting her a 13" spec' myka and aint it all changed.

What happened, I know steel prices shot through the roof but I'm looking at nigh on a grand for a quality steel bike. I'm so glad I didn't let go of my bike.

Unfortunalatley she needs a bit of TLC, two years on the fore deck of the boat hasn't done her any favours but I'll get her pristine again, (bike, not the wife). She's a bright orange GT Tequesta, (93 I think) in original spec'.

I found the site whilst trying to date the bike and I'm so pleased to see some of the bikes I used to drool over still being riden and cared for, tip the hat to you guys.

Should anyone have a 20" steel kona with p2s in good usable condition needing a new home, would be interested I'm not far from market drayton, shrops.

I'm James, I'm 33 and I live in Buckinghamshire. I've just got home from collecting an Orange Aluminium O frame from Boy"O"Boy and am looking forward to putting it together and badgering you lot for bits and advice The frame looks lush - it's a job well done.

It's the bike that I wanted when I was buying my first MTB but couldn't afford it and have been hankering after one ever since. I ended up with a Specialised Hard Rock (which I still have). Earlier this year I rebuilt an old Muddy Fox Pathfinder to do the London to Oxford ride and it got me excited about riding and tinkering again.

oops already just put up 3 posts before finding the introduction thread.

As you will see from my signature I once worked in the trade, - in what would be considered the hay-day perhaps? Certainly had some great times and got to own or ride some great bikes, - never forget Joe Breeze coming in with his first Breezer.

Have to think now as to what I owned over the years, - one of the first 3.0 series Cannondale's, - black with green spots splatted all over it, - great frame but came with Suntour so never changed gear right. Had 2 or 3 M.2's, - (still have a M2 road bike), a Klein whose model name escapes me, - but it was so dull and lifeless to ride sold it after 1 ride. Kona Exposif in full prestige, think it may have been Reynolds tubing but I might have imagined that....The best bike? Fat Chance Yo Eddy, - green to blue fade one, - Ringle blue hubs, stem, XTR chainset and brakes and Rock Shox pained in to match teh frame, - I can remember the paint sprayer from the FC factory ringing me up to check I wanted the foks sprayed to match... to right I did!! It was thanks-giving and everybody else in the factory had gone but he wanted to finish my bike before he headed home. In truth the bike was too good for me, - the best way I could describe it was as precise, - it responded so well to very bit of input it needed a better rider than me to get the best from it.

Now I have an S-Works steel hanging in the garage that I am trying to get rolling again, - but need a headset and having trouble finding a 1" one with the right crown race collar size. Still ride when I can, but use my Trek Fuel.

Hey folks! Just happened across this site and wanted in!

My names Jamie. I'm 24 from Knoxville, TN. That the south east along the appalaichain mountains. I'm a father of 2 and one by marriage. Used to race dual slalom and downhill but had to stop peddling when an a*hole stole my rig. Had about 3k in her and couldn't afford to build another.

So now, 3 years later, I bought an old Bianchi roadie. Nothing special, but she'll get rid of my belly. lol

Hope to hear from some of you soon. Love sharing stories and ideas, so give us a yell sometime!
