welcome!

The bearvalley SE was my first real mountain bike, it replaced my Raleigh Amazon, I loved it!

Hi All,

I'm JC, joined up after digging the old BMX out of the shed. That's my current project, pics to go up over on the BMX thread.

As for other bikes, I was the proud owner of a Raleigh Maverick back in the day. Didn't have the money for anything else, and it only had three gears, but back then I was better at the mantra 'just get out and ride'.

During what would have been my retro years, I was daft enough to buy Peugeots from Halfords. They did the job though, I even remember some ace early Shimano trigger shifters. I'm convinced one of the bikes was a Peugeot Hardrock, although I'm half expecting a summons from Specialized's lawyers for libel.

Current collection includes the unidentified BMX, a gorgeous Harry Quinn road bike, a 1999 Be One Weblite, and a 2004 Gary Fisher Sugar Race.

Hello from the colonies!

Nice site you chaps have here. Really enjoy looking at you great bikes! Nice to see the retro movement is alive and well over there. Of course when I bought most of my bikes they were new. I'm not sure what that makes me except old

Looked at some of the trails over there, Looks like you have some wonderful riding over there too!

I have a few old pieces of junk laying around :) so I guess we have a few things in common......

(edit) Just found the Gallery very nice feature......

Cheers!

hello!!

Hello all, found this site from a mention on singletrack forum :)

My first bike was some old raleigh thing that wanted to be a BMX, but wasn't
I then 'progressed' onto a Montana tourer, then when my brother was older we had matching Mustangs (these are in the for sale section).
More recently we got back into biking via two Spesh hardrock XC's and have done 90% of the forestry trails etc north of here.
I also got a 04 stumpjumper Pro and Chris (bro) is looking at a Cube as a possible next bike.

I found this site recently so thought I'd finally get round to introducing myself.

My first mountain bike was a 21"(!) 15-speed Raleigh Mustang in the mid-late 80s, all 38lbs of it. I mainly rode around the North East with my brother on his Kona Fire Mountain (he's almost finished rebuilding it for commuting) and a friend with what I think was a GT Tequesta (dark metallic blue with rear U brake), both bikes a similar age to the Mustang, and we often met up with the Beamish Odd Sox club during the week.

In mid 1993 I bought a replacement, the KHS Montana Pro I'm still using today. The Rapidfire+ shifters were swapped for XT thumbies when I bought it, as I never liked shifting with buttons when trying out other people's bikes. The difference between them was amazing, not least the fact it was less than 2/3 the weight, and it gave me much more confidence to chuck it around than I ever had with the Mustang.

Thousands of miles were racked up on it around the North East, along with the odd holiday in Scotland, Wales and the French Alps where there were real mountains to play on, but once I got a job in East Anglia suddenly there was a shortage of places to ride, so I didn't really do much cycling for several years.

Then a few years ago I found out that there was a group of mountain bikers where I lived, so dug out the KHS and joined in. We have to make do with the fairly flat terrain around here, but manage to find enough to make it fun. We regularly get up to Thetford forest (unfortunately I was away for last month's Retrobike meet there), did the Marin Dusk Till Dawn in 2005, have been to Coed Y Brenin a couple of times, and will be charging round Afan this weekend.

They always seem surprised that I have no trouble keeping up on a bike without suspension when they all have hardtails or full suspension, but I guess growing up with decent hills to ride on helped a lot, and as I've always ridden without suspension its just normal to me.

The majority of the bike is original. Other than the usual bits wearing out, the Zoom 130 handlebar snapped a couple of years ago, and the wheels are new after the original rims wore too thin and started to break up.

Hi all

Just dragged the mountain bike out of the garage after a long lay off and went shopping for a helmet, now I'm all fatherly I've got to look responsible! ;)

Anyway I was searching google for a helmet and what do I find? Orange are making a limited run of Clockworks, my first mountain bike. Oh dear, the brain starts racing, orange and white, nope it doesn't get any better. I'm now looking at my Carrera Bugaboo (I know I'm sorry) uninspired and dreaming of Oranges.

I had a custom spec'd Vit T that cost me £2600 back in 94 and I sold it for a deposit on an motorbike. So here I am, I found you after searching google for Vitamin T's and have sat here for the last hour searching the For Sales and staring longingly at pictures. I still haven't convinced myself that I should part with any cash after such a long time out and I'm sitting cursing myself for selling that Vit T to a spotty yoof with too much cash. Oh well you make your choices. I'll probably lurk for a while and sit here remembering the good old days.

Oh and hello all.

Hello. Come on down the price will be right. Buy a Orange clockwork. You wont look back ;)
