'91 Stumpjumper Time Warp Classic....

@abr303... are there currently produced drivetrain replacement parts (cassettes, chainrings, etc.) that easily fit the old Stumpjumper, or is one relegated to trying to find old parts? Fortunately, I don't need to replace any, since my bike has seen decades of nothing but quiet rest. I'm just curious if these old SJ's are easily modified with newly-made parts.

you can still get new 7 speed cassettes (even shimano ones!) and new chainrings are still available for both 110 and 94 BCD cranksets which I think were the two most prevalent MTB standards early on

not as many options as there would have been of course but still being made (as well as square taper cranks)

As mentioned yes there are current compatible options available even if a bit limited for choice. It’s just down to whether you want to maintain ithe originality or not in terms of trying to replace like for like …. There’s plenty of Deore DX floating around online via forums and eBay etc. as I’m building up a couple of early’90’s Diamond Back’s👍

I have been advised to replace my 34 year old tires. o_O Can't imagine why. ;)

Does anyone know the internal rim width of the Specialized 26" BX-23 wheels? Without removing a tire from the rim, the rim width measures 23.6mm external (where the brake shoes contact).

I'm wondering if I could go with a wider tire and what specific tires, available today, might be recommended? I'm thinking I should replace the tubes while I'm at it. Any advice on these changes would be much appreciated.

My '91 Stumpjumper came with 1.95" Crossroads tires.
