You know what, I've said this for years and people laughed.
I remember the single incident that stopped me going to Tescos - was away for a weekend, on our way there stopped in Tescos Cambridge I think, just to get a sarnie. I was so disgusted with their monopoly I had to leave, the store is sooooooooo vast and trying to sell EVERYTHING I just refused to buy into it. The bloody place was on two floors, upstairs was all the electrical and I don't mean Panafonics and Sorny, it was all the real deal.
As someone that had recently set up as self employed I found Tescos was the equivalent of hell.
I live in St Albans and we have a market two days a week, I get all my fruit and veg there, it's not ony cheaper, it's better and lasts longer.
Same with the butchers, use the local guy who just won retailer of the year. Same story, cheaper, organic and so much better that guests have commented on what we've bought there before I've told them anything.
It's not all roses here though, the council are useless and the independent shops are slowly going. Weve been fighting a Tescos planning for about 15 years and they A/ refuse to give up and **** off and B/ refuse to sell on the buildings that are on the site, have been boarded up for years now and just decaying. They really are just full of dirty tricks IMO.
Thank god I am an artist for a living, Tescos cant start suppyling MY artwork at 4.99.
Local shops/businesses/pleasant community life - use em or lose em folks.
