No, Wiggins won in 2012 .... remember him, the guy with the sideburns and scooters who lives in Britain and embraces the culture.

Wiggins? What the bloke with the Australian dad, who was born in Belgium?

Re:

That's the one. Like I said, lives in Britain with his family, guess he pays UK taxes, prob knows what a British pub looks like and so on

Guess by your definition, I'm not a Brit too. But go back a few generations and you'll find nobody is

We'll just have to agree to disagree then

Back on topic, chapeau to froome, what a fine athlete that guy is and a good ambassador for sport

Seen a similar thing on BBC comments page too. Frankly, I can't understand why people like to
make their own opinion what nationality other people are and what it entails or not. Seems some
people require you to have a blood line to the damn druids at Stonehenge and be part of a
incestuous family business of 200 years running a corner shop in Kent to be satisfied.

What emotional attachements one as to where in the world as nothing to do with it. Infact
not even where you were born, lived in the past, or are currently living doesn't
automatically dictate citizenship either.

The established way is simple and widely accepted around the world on many levels for a
good few number of years now.......what does it say in his passport?

Re:

Slightly off topic, when I told Mrs Muz about Wiggins' 'Right, we're going to do the raffle now' quote on the TdF podium, she laughed so much!
Not since I asked 'How about it?' has she laughed so much

Just how far back do we go to prove that laughable phrase ' indigenous ' ?

Pre Roman? Viking? Sorry, anything earlier was before my time!

I was told that the only true English are actually Welsh but call them English and you're likely to get a good kicking.
So Froome had the right by British Law to duel nationality being his mother was English and as his future lay in the UK he packed his bags and moved on and I'm bloody grateful he did and that he choose to ride for England in the olympics. As a country we have embraced him as we did with wiggo. So in respect of wether you see him as British or not is irrelevant they are British citizens hold a British passport so are deemed by UK law as British.
3 time winner of the TDF yeah to bloody right we'll take him.

Re:

Does that mean we have a recent Paris Roubaix winner, in Stuey?

Well, being an Aussie, he must have English descendants somewhere down the line

Mike

Re:

Sciandri only rode for Britain as he wasn't good enough for the Italian team.

So a Wincanton Classic/Leeds Classic win too then!
And maybe Kellogg's ToB?
