Stuck Seat Post - Slide Hammer Loan Request.

another way is compressed air, seal the compressed air gun into the top of the seat post, presuming you chopped the top off,
spray and the air might push the post out using force,

another way is to tap or die the seat post and put a bolt or nut onto said thread and get a breaker bar and try twist the seatpost with the breaker bar.

or you could use the reason you posted this thread, a slide hammer, the problem with a slide hammer is to secure it to the seatpost otherwise the slide hammer will just jump off. the slide hammer used with some ice to cool down the post, should definitely work

I have lots of mechanics tools like a welder and other tools if you have any problems, send it or bring it to use and me and my colleague will sort it for you

ah never new they had a locking feature, I have a pair of stilton's, appropriately named the (initiate deep voice) "the senator"
that would of helped me a great deal yesterday!

On Aluminum posts it is tricky, but steal posts no problem removed a stuck post last night from an old Tange scott frame. Removed many a BMX seatpost back in the day from frames we salvage from the local tip or scrap yard.

There is only one way to do it ....easy and super effective!

1.) Soaking it with rust remover - as far as possible
2.) Heat
3.) sacrificing the seat post and putting a huge bolt through it
4.) and then, clamping the seat post with the bolt and the frame upside down in a big vice and using the frame itself to turn and twist it all around until it loosens and can be waggled out
did it plenty of times in the past
Most important thing is that the seat post can - under no circumstances - move in the vice! Use the head or the added bolt to prevent any movement of the seat post between the jaws.

100% success rate!

That’s the thing he doesn’t want to use heat because it might damage the frame, he’s already soaked it in plenty of rust remover, or something of the sort. He’s already drilled a hole through it so the post is already a write off, and he’s tried using the frame as a lever and it still hasn’t worked.

Instead of expanding the seat tube with heat, contract the seatpost using ice, that should work.

If not brute force will help a bit, but for something like this you have to use strategy, in this case either the rust or corrosion has grown so much it has fused the tube and post together depending on what material there is.

@Trebz are you sure you don’t have any pictures because that would help a lot.

If all comes to a loss you’ll either just have to live with it or have it drilled out. Or just have the seatpost man remove it for £79
Even though if it comes out with cold water youll have that £79 to spend on a new seatpost!

Okay ... I respect that. But I seriously ask myself why one would not use heat on that frame! Even a highly sensible Easton E9 frame can take A LOT of heating. What shall happen there? Why so anxious about it? Also, there is not even a weld around in that place of a normal tube. Of course you dont heat it to red hot glowing ember! Only so much, you cant tough it anymore.

Well I’m not the person with the frame, but there is two ways to loosen the frame hot/cold, and the cold option is the least destructive and you can buy hydrogen spray for cheap online.
