Re: Scottish Indepence YES or NO?

I'm on the No side.

I can't see any advantage in Scotland being independent apart from inflating Mr Salmonds ego and wallet. To me he comes over equally as odious and self serving as anyone else from Westminster. I've got nothing against Scotland, in fact a lot of my family heritage is based in Scotland, I just can't see the point in a split that will cost millions to implement for no real gain other than geographical - will the day to day lives of Scottish folk suddenly change? No. It's change for change's sake, nothing more.

Re: Scottish Indepence YES or NO?

People in Scotland realise this is nothing to do with crowning Salmond king. This is about progression, and an end to the to and fro tribal politics of Westminster. The Scottish Parliament is about making the argument over issues, not towing the party line.

We place huge value in social and health care, and community is at the heart of Scottish thinking. There is no place here for the Tory approach, and many of us want to ensure there is never again a glum night watching the map turn blue in England, knowing we have to suffer the consequences for the next five years.

Whatever happens will happen, but a YES result will unfold a series of changes that will show just how different Scotland truly is. We are famously the home of world innovation, who would ever imagine a newly independent Scotland standing still?

Re: Scottish Indepence YES or NO?

25% of the debt, lol and 25% of the assets, this is a divorce you know. Just bear in mind we're only about 9% of the population of the the UK.

Talking of 9%, ' English born' that's how they seem to put it, is 9% of our population, 497k people. Largely in the North and Edinburgh, by and large big YES supporters sharing the same hopes and ideals of a better society ( at least those in the North are)

As said the vote's not for salmond, it`s ' do you think Scotland should be an independent county?' If we do pull it off    reckon Labour will be back sooner rather than

Those wind farms visable from the m74 are my back yard, took the road bike over the fire roads just the other week, always welcome if you' re in the neighborhood!

You're a lucky man, I have always wished I could have lived in Scotland, but unfortunately career and then family made that move hard to the point of near impossibility.

Thanks for the invite, but I'm usually on my way up in the small hours and just getting into my stride on the way back down, as it takes me about eight hours driving each way.

Re: Scottish Indepence YES or NO?

No vote for me but if the Scots want independence then let them have it, just don't come back crying asking for help when the resulting stock market crash & recession brings us all to our knees.
You can't have the GBP & you won't be having a money union, the Bank of England can't/won't let that happen.
Salmond is a liar and only wants the fame for fortune when he pens his memoirs.

Anybody near Galashiels? Need a frame picking up.

Re: Scottish Indepence YES or NO?

Hold on, I just thought - if Scotland go independent they won't immediately join the EU, so does that mean we can get cheap fags and booze at a duty free shop on the border???
